I was proofreading my son's "resume" for his nomination packet when I started to wonder........Even though he is not required to reapply for USAFA, should he send updated accomplishments to help his chances of receiving an appointment?

    Thanks for any insight.

Uh...he really does have to reapply. He'll need to seek a new nomination and do the entire candidate package over again. You're correct, in a sense, in that they have his information from LAST year but this year will be just as important.

The BONUS portion for him is that he understands the process, should be in contact with his counselor, has the access of the prep school folks, etc...etc...

Gives him a "leg up" on the process! :thumb:

Thank you for the info. I have no idea why I got the idea he didn't have to reapply???? Attention to detail might not be a strength:eek:

He has gotten his MOC paperwork done, so now he will get going on the rest.

Thank you so much! This saved us much possible heartache!

No! You are NOT suppose to reapply. You will start a DIFFERENT application at the prep school. This is what I was told by Northwestern Prep.

Starting a Different Application is RE-Applying. The application you do this year is not held over if you don't get accepted and changed/abridged next year. You start the whole process over again. But as Steve (Flieger) said; you are re-applying. Just as if you never applied ever in your life. The difference is; also as Steve mentioned; you have the advantage of knowing the process and what is required. There is no reason at all that someone re-applying the next year shouldn't have the application completed 100% in minimal time.

This contradicts what I was told. I was distinctly told that the Falcon application was different. It is my understanding that the teacher recommendations, essays, and interview are not required, since they DO carry over for Falcon Scholars. My ALO did not even know this btw.

I agree with Roman from what I have been told. Rec letters, essays and ALO interviews are not needed. The prep school WILL fill out a form I think (based on the candidate's performance), which is then evaluated by the director of admissions at the Academy.

Also the DODMERB does not need to be retaken, I think it's valid for two years? It may need to be retaken if there is a medical problem after the first exam which could be cause for medical disqualification.

Okay folks...here's "THE ANSWER" from the USAFA/RRS (That's the Selections Division up at the academy).

Falcon Scholars will have their files PURGED when the school year begins.

    HOWEVER...

The teacher evaluations for this coming year will be waived as will the ALO interview Form AF4060. The other AF forms that you filled out this year...they'll be back again! And you'll have to fill them all out.

In addition, you will be required to submit (the school should do this for you) your grades from the school you're at as requested by USAFA as well as the results of your fitness test, etc. The school will do a bunch of things as requested by USAFA.

So...yes, you're reapplying and need to go through the hoops. No some of it won't be required this time around.

    Make sense?

PS The counselors all said: "Tell them to CALL US!!! As we can tell them immediately what they'll need to do, what their status is, etc...etc..."

    Falcon Mom

Depending on where you prep, you may have a Falcon Counselor. My son prepped at NMMI and Col. Hitch really took care of everything. He made the Falcons very responsible for their application, you will really be out of the loop. But rest assured, it all gets done. We had to schedule his interview with the Senator at Thanksgiving. But note to self, ALL academy mail will come to him, not to home. We had loads of paperwork to fill out in May when I picked him up. Good luck.

    Including the appointment!
excellent point, I had forgotten about this.

Both MMI and NMMI have excellent SAP counselors. Col Lewis at MMI does a great job coordinating the process.
