Does anyone know anything about the FalconSat program at the academy? My dad got me this video called "A year in the Blue" which pretty much talks about the first year as a cadet. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in going to the academy. Anyway, My Dad being a USAFA grad from a time long long ago didn't know anything about it. It sounds like the kind of thing I want to do though.
Also, I remember talking to one of the leaders at my Civil Air Patrol meetings and how he was like a recruiter for the Naval Academy. He said the one thing that people lacked in was their ability to stand out in the applications. Me personally, I feel like I haven't accomplished that yet (besides my Eagle Scout and soon to get Billy Mitchell in CAP) so I had this epiphany to start a rocketry club at my school. I'm still working out all the details but as soon as I get to school and meet the right teachers (I just moved. My dad retired and is now flying for Delta) I could gain the support I need. If all goes well I should have that to put on my application. It's something I enjoy and I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.:thumb:

USAFA is the only undergraduate program that builds and launches satellites into orbit. Even freshman year you can learn to fly the satellite and get your 'space wings'. This is something you do on your own time during the school year or it is also part of the summer programs, usually combined with jump or gliders first summer (those programs don't take the whole 3 weeks). The next falcon sat launch is scheduled for the fall of 2015.

Starting any program or club at school is a positive for your resume, but as you said, do it because you're interested and you like it, not just to pad your resume.

My DD is a 1C astro major, you work on the satellite your 1C year if you are an astro major. Final assembly for the latest FalconSat is this year. Launching sometime next year. The new cycle begins with design etc. after that. They no longer build a rocket due to budget and lower number of astro majors.
