One last question before we leave tomorrow. Will my son have time to buy a fan at the Academy or should we purchase one when we get to NY?

Buy one when you get into NY.

If 2010 is the same basic schedule as 2008, then you'll want to buy the fanbefore tomarrow morning. That said it always seems like more folks bring fans than are needed and I'd thinkhe might be able to swap for a fan if he needs from a shipmate who is in an air conditioned company if he gets in a real bind....

    fan

I'd say come with a fan. If you don't need it, it goes into storage or stays in your room. If the air stops working, (for those of you who have air conditioning) at least you have a fan as a backup. Either way, take along a fan so you are sure to have at least one in your room.

The NY metro area has been experiencing extreme heat over the last few days with no sign of relief in sight. Both water and electricity conservation measures have been called for so it may only be a matter of time before AC is curtailed for periods of time or brown outs occur. The fan is a good bet.

.... and to just continue (since I am currently living this east coast heatwave), many of the local stores are running short of air conditioners and fans. So if you are travelling into the NY metro area and expecting to buy a fan when you arrive, you could be disappointed.

I recommend getting that fan before you arrive in the area if possible.

Absolutely correct- here in the tri state area fans and air conditioners are getting scarce. Good luck!
