Fellow Applicants, what's your plan B?

I applied to the USNA and 18 other schools, so hopefully that means I'll have 18 plan-Bs (I've already been accepted to two backup schools; RIT and Virginia Tech). But, no matter what school I end up attending in the event I get a TWE from USNA, my backup plan is to do NROTC (whether I get the scholarship or not). The major I choose ultimately depends on what the school offers (ideally, I'd be majoring in Nuclear Engineering, but a lot of schools don't offer that, so I'm willing to go for some type of Engineering Physics/Mechanical Engineering). And, of course, I'd reapply to USNA every year until I turn 23! It's a dream that I'm not just going to give up so easily.

Hopefully only a minimal number of us have to use our plan-Bs, and if we do have to use them, I hope it turns out to be a wonderful alternative (which I'm sure it will be!). Fingers crossed.

I've wanted to be a Marine Officer as well! I am a second year applicant but am transferring to a university that has NROTC.

My plan C is:

- Norwich University
- The Ohio State University
- Miami University (Oxford)
- Arizona State University
- Ohio Dominican University (No NROTC but am currently attending)

So far I've been accepted to Norwich as a Marine Option and recommend that you look into the Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Class as well.

If you're interested in the process for USMC OCS, look into the book Becoming an Officer of Marines: The Definitive Guide to Marine Corp Officer Candidate School by Gabriel Coeli.

Keep the faith! USNA is a great school, many great Marines have graduated from that institution. I plan on reapplying every year until the age cutoff.

Semper Fi!

4 year NROTC scholarship to the University of Michigan. Anyone else going there?

My plan B (although it may be insulting to their military program, and maybe, I should call it an equal plan, haha) is to attend Texas A&M University. While they aren't an academy, they are the next best thing, for me.[emoji16]

DS applied to ten schools. If no USNA this year, he will probably end up at the Ole Miss Honors College, where he has been accepted with a fabulous merit scholarship. He just plans on making great grades and taking a second ride on the roller coaster if that's what it takes.

We toured Ole Miss with both DD and DS and I really loved that school and their honors program. I thought their Center for Manufacturing Engineering Program was impressive, too. It was definitely on their short list and I would have been happy had they attended that college.

Full ride AFROTC scholarship to U of I (Illinois). Mechanical engineering. The problem is that I can't go to a state school or I'll party waaay too much

I saw a table from a CNA report about USMC ROTC officer accessions.
the largest top five are Citadel, Texas A&M, VMI, Villanova and Notre Dame. that was from the early 2000s.
but any ROTC unit with a large Semper Fi group. Also with a MECEP contingent.
Interesting, didn't know Villanova had that many. That's a good sign!

Thanks Hopefulacademyguy. He started the NROTC application process but was told by his recruiter that he was too late for this year. So, if the Academy doesn't work out for some reason, he's hoping to re-apply next year, probably at Marquette.
Happy to help!

My son's plan B's include several state schools' Honor's programs with full scholarship. We haven't discussed whether or not he will reapply to USNA next year yet.
