Female Cadet Percentage

Okay folks...stop the borderline attacks on each other right now. The OP was about: "The class of 2019's profile states that 26.5% of the class is made up of females. I've heard from a few sources they are looking to increase that percentage. Can anyone confirm this?" I don't see where arguing about UAS/UAV/RPV's and who can pull how many G's, the speed at which a human can make a decision (FYI, it's @ 3 seconds for awareness, recognition, and reaction) and who understands what about the mission of the USAF.

Return to the topic or I will close this thread.

Yes sir!
I don't think we can prove anything that admissions is thinking. I would like to think that they want more females, but would hate to see the percentage increased at the expense of more qualified males.

I can tell you that a coach my DS met with about a month ago told us that they were trying to get the percentage of female cadets aligned with the percentage in the Air Force in total. He thought that percentage was closer to 33%. Obviously this is unofficial, but that was his perspective for what it is worth.

Did none of the AETC cadets tell you about demanding perfection in those 15?
"FOUR!...Down!....UP!...Basic Smith did not have correct form!...DOWN!...UP!...FOUR!"

Raimius - don't forget about the fractions! Go down 1/3 of the way, hold for 30 seconds, up, repeat three times = "1".

It wa

I will admit that every year is easier than the year before, but 19 didn't have to take the CFA during the application process and during basic, we had to stick to a PT card for them, where they could only do 15 pushups in one sitting. This lead to the largest amount of doolies on athletic probation ever.

I think that if you plotted the probability of this statement on a graph, it would end at 1970 as no one prior to that could have physically survived their respective Beast.

And as far as counting goes, lest we forget the only answer to

'What's the count?

Is

'Sir/Ma'am the count is 0'

WOW!!! So sad that this is such a consistent argument when there are males willing to fight at all costs and beyond just to get in.
Some females fight/work hard as can be in order to be competetive with the males, but yet there are some females looking for a "pass".
One can only hope that the powers that be will see through the ones hoping/begging for a free pass will be discovered in order for those willing/worthy, male/female in all races and nationality to receive an appointment to serve their country unconditionally.
Sorry to any offended but worn down from "victims" wanting the world "handed to them." We do have some females even upping the anti for dudes and I give them props. They do deserve appointments and respect from all those vested in the process.

Again sorry for those offended but this is real life.

During my 20 year military career I've known dozens of women who graduated from service academies. I don't think I've ever met one who thought of themselves as a victim, or ever looked for a "pass". In fact, if anything most of them I knew had to work a lot harder than their male counterparts simply to be looked at as "equal".

Whether meant to be or not, your post is offensive. It implies that women are somehow taking spots from deserving male applicants. I couldn't disagree more. Over my career I came to believe that women in the military have actually raised standards. If you take women out of the equation (for both officers and enlisted), I believe the standards would actually have to be lowered, especially when it comes to intelligence.

I realize that everyone has their own view on this process, but I must admit that I am always a little surprised when I read posts like this. Throwing out a statement like "there are some females looking for a 'pass'" when it comes to attending a service academy seems beyond ridiculous. I don't believe that anyone who is willing to serve our country (especially in today's world) is ever looking for a pass. Those looking for a pass would certainly be looking elsewhere.

Completely agree with this!
I would like to see statistics on how many women look for "a pass", otherwise its just an opinion. There are some that look for the easy way out, but it has nothing to do with gender/race/etc & more to do with character. Thus, inferring that many of the women are looking for "a pass" means you've just questioned their character. Am I offended? You bet I am! Any woman reading this would be.

It's interesting to note that there are threads right now asking if usafa is looking for more women and more minorities. Now why would you care if you were a woman or minority unless you were looking for an extra edge? You don't see guys, specifically white males asking if the academy is looking for more white males.

I also don't think looking for an edge is a hit on anyone's character! It's completely ok to look for any edge during a competition. It's just a sad state of modern political correctness that we even have to think about "diversity".

YES! I remember Xena warrior Princess and her army of Amazons! They were stronger, faster, and smarter than any man! I can hear you roar!

Let me present a different perspective on diversity --

Does not the following also offer an edge?
1) Having the financial means to take the ACT/SAT multiple times
2) Going to a HS school that offers honors/AP classes, or even a HS rated highly in academics
3) Being able to pay for club sports with national travel opportunities (in AZ, club volleyball averages $2000/yr + travel expenses). More for football or baseball!
4) Going to a school that offers multiple clubs/community service/leadership opportunities
5) Going to a school that offers girls the opportunity to play just as many sports as it does the boys -- with the same level of funding

I could go on. Diversity is more than race or gender. It also includes identifying those kids who may have excelled with little opportunities available to them. I don't envy the job that the admissions people are tasked to do. Trying to level the playing field to give equal opportunity to a diverse set of people while still maintaining a level of expected excellence has got to be a herculean task.

Maybe people aren't looking for an edge but wondering if the SAs will correct a long standing policy of giving white males the extra edge? Why would a white male have to ask, when they already know they have the edge?

That has not and has never been a policy. They look for the best. If you didn't grow up with a lot of opportunities or whatever and there are people that have better applications than you, too bad! People aren't equal. period.

This quote is right out of Lalaland. Example: incoming class of 1200. 250+ priors and prepschoolers. 200+ athletes give or take. 300+ - diversity appointees. 300+ or -females. Of course some groups will overlap, but how in the world can you infer that white males, especially white males applying directly out of high school have an advantage?

Equal numbers on SAT, ACT, ECAs, etc. and women, minorities win over white males almost every time. IMHO.
