Field Training Extra Packing list

My wife dropped off my DS at the airport this morning, alot of hugs in the pics my wife sent me of her and my daughter with my DS. As far as the mailing address goes, the FTU designation should be their Max number, which will be 4 for our children. My DS heard originally what undflyboy posted, but after the letters my DS sent to his buddies at Max 3 came back undelivered, we found out different.

Best of luck to your son!

Even my son who was doing the "I'm tough and I don't need any letters from home" shtick told us how comforting it was to come back to his bunk after a long day of training and finding letters waiting for him... Even from Dad razzing him...

:shake:

Thanks Romad, we sent him his first letter yesterday. Myself, wife, and daughter all wrote him a short letter. The wife also included a few pictures she took the day he left he should enjoy.

Our Son left for Maxwell on Wednesday (his 21st b-day no less!). Lots of hugs here too! He did not mention anything about a parade and only after reading and researching did we find out about it! Is this something that is encouraged for parents to attend? Of course we would love to be there to support him!! We also assume that the parade will take place at Camp Shelby (I think?) . Our son told us they leave Maxwell mid-way through training and via internet research, we read they go to Camp Shelby in Mississippi. He flies back home out of New Orleans.

Any insight/information is greatly appreciated!!!

No parents are not encouraged to attend, but nor are they discouraged either It really is not a biggie. I would say that probably the only parents that attend, live close enough to do a quick car trip there, if it is going to cost an airline ticket it is not worth the money, time or energy. (JMPO)

We did not attend our DS's when it was held at Maxwell and none of his friends parents did either. Honestly all these kids want is to get their props and leave.

Additionally it is not as if they can spend the whole day with you. There will be a few hours carved out, but than they have to go back to their dorms or at least that was how it was done in years past.

I know a couple of posters here went last year and they enjoyed the day, but again I believe all of them were able to do a car ride to attend.

Thanks, Pima. That's kind of what I was thinking. It would be nice but just seemed like an awful big expense for such a short amount of time.

That is why most parents don't go and why their kids don't tell them about the parade. The kids already know that logistically and financially this makes no sense, and honestly I think most cadets are like mine, they don't care about the parade....it is just another march in the sweltering heat. They care about their prop wings and getting to go home.

I can't remember, but I believe if your cadet is an AF child they get gold props, whereas, the others get silver.

If you're a cadet and one of your parents was prior service in any branch you get gold prop and wings, others get silver. They asked us whose parents were military before school let out.
