It seems to be common knowledge that your file is 60% academics, 30% leadership, and 10% athletics, but beyond that I've heard different things.

Does the academics category just include your SAT/ACT scores and your class rank? Does it include any academic honors you've won (National Honors Society, etc)? Does sports leadership 'count' toward the leadership category or the athletics category?

Basically, I'd really appreciate it if someone could shed some more light on the breakdown of scoring, although I do realize that we aren't going to be told the actual 'value' of different activities.

Thanks everyone!

Here is the breakdown I received from my Northeast Admissions coordinator:

1. Academics 60%: Half based on standardized test scores (SAT/ACT) and the other half on rank in class weighted by the number of students in your graduating class as well as the percentage of graduates going on to four-year colleges.
2. Leadership 30%: One-third based on teacher evaluations, one-third on leadership in extracurricular activities, and one-third on leadership in athletics.
3. CFA 10%: Candidate Fitness Assessment (kneeling basketball throw, pull-ups/flexed arm hang, shuttle run, push-ups, curl-ups, and one mile run).
4. Additional things considered heavily include moral/ethical character, essays, work experience, transcripts, and interviews.

I believe National Honor Society would be considered in the leadership category. At least that's how it was listed when I filled out my Candidate Activities Record.

Hope this helps and good luck with the process. I am also applying for admission so anyone who is more experienced with the process feel free to chime in.
