Although I've applied for an NROTC scholarship and am considered a strong candidate, I know there is no guarantee that I will actually receive a scholarship. However, I still, no doubt, want to partake in NROTC at whatever college I choose to attend to.
I've already received a $9,000 (renewable) scholarship to the University of Tampa and a $17,000 (renewable) scholarship to Loyola University New Orleans. However, even with the scholarship, both schools will be financially tight for my family to afford.
I'm wondering if there are any financial benefits to joining NROTC. I know you get a monthly stipend and may become eligible for a 3 year scholarship, but are there any more benefits? i.e., would I receive money for books and/or other miscellaneous required expenses? And do I start to receive health insurance from the Navy once I join NROTC at my school? Any other benefits?
Thank you.
