Wow the last two weeks have been a roller coaster. I think the parents and the soon PC's will look back on this with strong memories. It makes me think of the camping trips that went awry (to some extent that is inevitable thanks to mother nature) and all the memories and laughs they bring for years to come. I believe our kids will persevere through this indoc that is now known as the "USS Sick Bay" and be ok. Lord knows it will definitely not be forgotten!

Now comes the hardest part for all, academics and a rigorouse Plebe schedule for them, no more pictures and daily stalking for us. Here is to the next chapter that will start next week.:thumb:

Yay. Indoc is nearly over...

My S (2/c) left me an observation I'll share:
"They will think Indoc is tough:rolleyes:. In reality, they get more sleep during IT than they will for the whole rest of the year".

Write your kid an encouraging letter.
Their study habits and time management are CRUCIAL.

Academically, this academy is like 'drinking from a firehose' -- there's a LOT of stuff, and it comes at you quick!

Study..
Study More .
DO ALL THE WORD PROBLEMS.
Go to Tutoring.
ASK/demand help...EARLY.
Find upperclassmen who can help you.
Use the ACE (Academic Center for Excellence).
DON'T give up.

Best of luck to you all!

Has any parent from 1st company heard from their PC about the change in DIs midway through Indoc- last weekend, I believe?

I'd look forward.
The first big hill on the roller coaster is approaching :)

Hey Zonk, I recall a favorite Mid posting this back in 08. Gives some perspective of things to come for 2013 parents as to what their kids might feel later down the road. I recall asking on AIM, "HEY! I asked a question an hour ago. Answer me sometime this year." The response was, "Mamma! I'm ironing my shirt, printing out a paper, shining my shoes, reading four chapters for homework, helping my roomie find his calculator, & getting ready to go buff floors. So go away!" LOL

Whoa.

2nd Trimester, hands down, hurts. Encourage them to study. Send some candy. Send some money for a pizza when they get order out. These last few weeks are probably the toughest we experience at Kings Point -- the reason being all those lovely breaks we had to break the trimester up . . . well. . . now the academic gods demand payment.

Try not to pester your midshipman . . . we're busy. We'd love to talk to you, trust me, we'd love nothing better than to sit down and chat with mama and pop, our girlfriends and boyfriends and buddies back home. But every hour spent on the phone with you is every hour we could have spent studying. Or attempting to catch up on that much needed sleep. Or cleaning for those silly inspections that get us stuck if we don't do them. Every midshipman learns this lesson early on in opportunity cost (hooray, economics.) I'm not saying to up and forget about us, I'm just trying to convey the point for you not to take offense.

Hope this helps. Now.. back to. . . 4 tests this week, a paper due tomorrow, a paper due monday, 3 presentations due next week. . . oh yeh, and then finals sometime after that. . .
