    Hey all,

Does anyone know when the admissions board meets for the first time? I thought it was around August 1 but wasn't sure. And when will they send the first LOAs out? I was pretty motivated after NASS and completed my online app and am now just waiting for a nomination. Thank you!

Wow that's great! DS has his BGO interview left, wants to also take ACT's per his BGO advice and wait for a nomination then hopefully an spot.
I think the website says in September? But remember as Cerberi said before, they are the exception, an early one would be rare unless there were certain circumstances.

Someone posted that a young man received an LOA during NASS. The admissions board doesn't issue LOAs. After the newly assembled class is sworn in is when the admissions team gets a break. They switch around spots, the LTs PCS and the new folks come in, etc. Its when they take their leave and vacation with their families. They are catching up in the office and taking a collective breath after a very busy year. The admissions process is very cyclic and they know where their break points are to take their leave. Once they all get settled back in and start reviewing applications, LOAs will start to roll out.

Remember LOAs are the exception, not the rule. When this board lights up with them some folks will start to panic. It will seem like tons of people got them. USNA doesn't publish how many they release. Some speculate it's around 150-200, none of us know for sure. I think on the 2020 appointed thread this year is was around 10-15% or so with them. There was one young man who posted who had an LOA and no Nom. He never posted back if he was given a VP nom or got off the NWL. A few BGOs on this board have stated this happen to candidate, it is rare, but not unheard of. Focus on what you can, an LOA is nice, but not the goal. Ask any 2020 Mid right now what an LOA has done for them right now or if anyone cares at this point.

As I tell all candidates...ASSUME you are NOT getting an LOA. Period. If you get one along the way, great! As NavyHoops said...an LOA is NOT a done deal.
The Admissions Board typically begins meeting in September...but application packages are NOT in a perfect queue...therefore, even if you were the first to complete the application, it doesn't necessarily mean you are the first to be reviewed. Even if you are, you might not hear anything until appointments are handed out pending submission of nomination slates (best case scenario) or further into the spring.
I will reiterate what NavyHoops said....only worry about what you can control.

I infer that the BGO reviewed the online application prior to your DS BGO interview. Is this correct ?

Yes he let him know that his application is going well, I took it to mean that as most everything was done. He hasn't had his BGO interview yet, they've been communicating via email once in a while. But he suggested both tests, which I've also seen here, son decided he wanted to go forward with ACT also. BGO is actually only thing he has remaining.

DS was excited tonight, his application says, complete pending review. Everything is done on his end, now he waits.

Does anyone know if the academy will tell a candidate if they will not be receiving a LOA? I saw on another thread that the academy notified a candidate that they would be receiving an official LOA in the coming weeks through the mail.

Last year while applying to USNA we thought DS would get his LOA early. We were cocky & confident...he was top of his class, 14 APs, spoke 3 languages, VP of Class, Captian golf & track, lived in 3 countries, 2350 on SAT....on & on. Well no LOA! Guess he was not that special:) 3 days after he receives his Principal nom he receives his LOA! Long story short~ LOA = Load of Arrogance for us:)

No. Candidates are only notified if they receive one.

Candidates, to set your expectations right now....you need to assume you WILL NOT hear anything until the spring. There are COUNTLESS stories of candidates, on this forum, posting how they submitted the application over the summer (or shortly thereafter) and had not heard anything until March/April. MANY of you will experience this.
