My friend got an email from University of Miami telling him that he was awarded a 4 year. Miami isnmt even a top 3 choice for him so I'm sure his other schools are waiting until Cadet Command releases the official notifications. I'm still waiting/hoping to hear from my schools.
Miami, Fl or Miami, Ohio? I ask since UM Florida cadets do their AROTC at FIU. FIU is #7 for my son but he hasn't applied as it really is last choice. I just have a hard time seeing them wanting to come 130 miles each way to award a check to someone wanting to go somewhere else. As someone else said these presentations are taking time away that cadets trying to get through first semester away at collage and those preparing to start their last semester of college. And the great need to do well on the OML . Why not recruiters who are already doing home visits and helping recruits get scheduled for their medicals and any testing.
Is anyone else unable to connect to the Army Scholarship page since post about decisions being made?
The bad part in doing home visits is the battalions that will not follow the requirements. Notification are already being posted with minimal info . This small trickles of people being notified is adding to frustrations on the increased time for notification. Students only have 30 days to agree to accept the scholarship and determine which school to go with. No one has addressed if the 30 days is from when awarded or when notified of the award? Does anyone know if delays in notifications is coming out of the 30 days to choose if accepting and school of choice?
Miami, Florida. My friend and I have almost identical stats, and I havent heard anything from any of my schools. So I am holding out hope that they are just following the rules and I will be notified when the official notice is posted. You are right that these few schools that have emailed cadets has risen the tension and anxiety I am feeling about not having heard yet... Yes the Army site is down, has been for almost 24 hours. Hopefully this means they are updating it with the results.

Going back to Clarksonarmy's original post - has anyone yet been contacted by their particular host/home school regarding setting up a time to present the high school senior the "big check" as a 4-year award winner? I'm just curious because, according to a follow-up post, this is supposed to be done by Dec. 4th. Thank you.

My ds received a voicemail from his local school (which happens to be his top choice and where he interviewed) last Thursday. We thought maybe something was wrong with his interview process since we hadn't heard that emails and phone calls were going out. He returned the call on Friday and was told that he had been awarded a 4 year scholarship to his top 3 schools. They asked if he would like them to come out with a big check now or would he rather wait. He was surprised by this question and said that he'd rather wait. My oldest ds received a 4 year scholarship in 2008 and was never offered any type of ceremony so I think that's why he was surprised by the question. Luckily I had already read through this post before he got home so I could tell him that it really is a thing now.

I hesitate to post anything as my hubby would not be happy with me, but I am a Mom too. My hubby is a PMS and my son is a ROTC Scholarship Applicant so I get were everyone is coming from. My son has not been notified yet by any of his schools in any manner. My husband is very busy and the guidance he is being given is fluid and changes almost every day as how he and his ROO are supposed to contact winners. I do believe they have finally called their awardees, but I am not sure. He does understand that everyone is waiting on pins and needles. I don't even ask him anymore as he is extremely busy with his job. I too check the portal all the time because I want to see it say something definitive and not just boarded so I will continue to wait with the rest of you.

would anyone who has been awarded a scholarship care to share their credentials?

My son was just notified that he received a four-year Army ROTC scholarship. He has been homeschooled since sixth grade (his choice). His junior and senior years he has been dual enrolled at our local community college and has a 3.9 GPA (unweighted). He is a blackbelt in TaeKwonDo and very involved in Krav Maga. He has been an officer for two years in Youth In Government and is an Eagle Scout. He teaches STEM courses (e.g. App Development, 3D Printing) during the summer for middle schoolers. He has also applied to the Academies.

Congratulations to you and your son, ArmyMom11. How was your son notified and has his status changed on the application website?

The portal still says 'BOARDED' but we were sent a congratulatory letter from the ROTC Recruiting Officer. Spoke with him and he said we should get the 'official' letter this week.

So I emailed the UMD PMS to ask if local det. Were responsible for updating winners and I receieved this email back.

I hope all is well. Cadet Command is still responsible for notifying individual winners. The local ROTC Dets don't have the personnel to notify all the winners in their area. The ROTC Dets may contact winners to congratulate them if they have decided to attend that school.

Hopefully this makes sense for everyone worrying about getting notice from local battalions.

As awesome as this is, I think the army should be spending their money elsewhere since we are downsizing.

On another thread someone posted the following emailed response from Army Cadet Command in Fort Knox about 45 minutes ago...

"We are unfortunately not able to release the results of the October board
yet. We appreciate your patience and hope to be able to release the results
by mid-December. A notification will be sent through your application when
the information becomes available.

Thank you for your interest in the Army ROTC program and your desire to
serve your country." So I was emailed about the army scholarship being delayed. Woohoo...

Not sure why some folks are saying they have heard?

The results are most likely already in the system and some PMS and ROO's have elected to make contact with applicants that were awarded scholarships to their schools, call it a preemptive strike at trying to get that applicant to select their school.

The system of notification this year seems to be vastly different then in the past, if what Clarkson has posted is correct, who knows how it will shake out.

Seems so. DS heard from his 3rd choice school confirming a 4-year AROTC Scholarship over a week ago, but no word from any others.

For some applying to both Army and Navy ROTC this delay can be a help. If you are not notified you have not started the 30 day choice clock. Navy has not had a board yet so Army could have gotten many multiple service applicants to commit to Army when there was not time to wait to see if the other service/s were making an offer. From a marketing stand point it is a really bad choice to have that long a wait. If these notifications are not official notifications they still could even lose people notified by ROOs since those are not official notifications. What is the reasoning for dragging this out especially when several people have been notified. @Olivia76262 University of Miami (Florida) attend the FIU ROTC program was your friend called by FIU?

KeyzCat, that's a good theory but it is not entirely accurate. Accepting an offer within the 30 day deadline simply locks up that offer for you only with respect to AROTC. Even if you accept it, if you later get an offer from another service's ROTC, or from any service academy, including USMA, you can also select that offer and have the luxury of deciding later which one you actually prefer. Although some folks here will criticize the practice, there are those who will keep the accepted AROTC scholarship offer in their vest pocket up to and even past R-Day ( Report Day).

I think it is important to see the scholarship not as a marketing/recruitment tool. Many candidates that apply for this scholarship understand that it is a long wait. Those that are highly competitive will typically hear earlier or around the same time as an EA or ED decision from their top college choices.
~ Many will have to wait months longer to hear from any SA. Candidates applying for both an SA and ROTC scholarship their ALO/BGO/FFR probably will inform them of what EDelahanty just stated regarding holding onto the scholarship.

Additionally the reason impo not to view this scholarship as a recruitment tool, is if you need it to attend that college from a financial perspective, than most posters will say rethink your decision. ROTC scholarship is unique that it allows the cadet to walk before the 1st day of their sophomore year.
~ Many cadets will apply thinking they want this life, but once there in the program they decide that it is not their cup of tea.
~~ My DDs friend entered VT with a AROTC scholarship. By Thanksgiving she decided she didn't want to go Army. She started NROTC spring semester...no scholarship. She could afford to do this because the scholarship was gravy.

Statistically there has never been 100% from scholarship award to commissioning years later.

Do I believe that the military sees this as a recruitment tool? Yes. However, I think they want the cadet/mid that is willing to wait. Remember, that the overall rate for a scholarship is 16-19%. They are in the minority when they get to their college.

There have been Navy Boards; at this point probably a couple. Scholarships have already been reported as posters here have informed us. Are you perhaps thinking of Marine Option Boards of which the first one is underway as I type this?
