First Round of Offers

As a reapplicant having recieved an appointment, I feel a bit like a dog chasing cars. You see the goal, you chase the car, but once you actually catch it, what do you do with it? Tonight was an emotional roller coaster for me, it was Saturday night and I was volunteering at our governor's inaugural ball, and after all the festivities, we would get to meet our new lt. Gov and gov and get pictures. During one of the speech intermissions I just checked my portal like I had been doing every couple hours for the last month, and it was sort of a habit now, and I had gotten used to not seeing anything, so when I saw "appointment offered" I wasn't sure what to do with myself. So the first person I got to tell was the governor like five minutes later when we got pictures, and he congratulated me. Anyway, I am so glad to finally be a part of this family, and this moment finally made the last three years of work worth it. I also don't think I would have been able to deal with all the waiting without the help of this forum. Thank You everyone here!

Congratulations ameisen_zug!

Portal showed "Appointment Offered" here too this morning! No BFE yet.
It's surreal to realize that in 5 months time that simple pop up in your portal will amount to 4 years of hard work and then 8 years of service to our country. You will be in those chairs on R-day, you will be in CBT, and you will be tossing that cap at graduation. Take this feeling of excitement and use it as a fire to fuel your training for the upcoming months. Congrats to everyone, I know I accepted my appointment at 12:05 at night, that click may very well have changed my life.

Yes. My DS went on an overnight visit last year after receiving his appointment and he did not have an LOE or LOA. If you can afford it then I would highly recommend going. It can give you a small glimpse into life at USMA.

how did the portal update?
I'm guessing that if the portal didn't update that my DS can stop checking the mailbox. Pretty disappointing. The process will go on.
Maybe after Monday, but then again as you say the process will go on. Of course we are assuming two day mail, but with the budget cuts maybe they went donkey ground. Only when it is R-day, one can stop checking.

My take (+ $5 will get you a Starbucks, so take w/ a grain of salt). It's so early in the process. The first wave are often "water walkers." They are phenomenal students/athletes, plus they often bring something else to the table (recruited athlete, under-represented minority, developed cure for cancer). The reality is most of the applicants are very good....but this group is a notch above. We didn't expect first wave. We are just hoping for a wave somewhere before Rday (prefer much before Rday). If you didn't hear this round, do not be disheartened. It is really early. ;)

Agreed. You are authorized an overnight visit now that you have been offered appointment. There's a link to schedule it somewhere I can't remember. Email your RC and they will direct you to the link. It's a good experience. If your parent goes with you, the Thayer is relatively(compared to R-day and A-day) inexpensive this time of year.
