Anyone have any advice about about being the Comm Officer on a destroyer? Thanks!

Do it. Classic JO job, do well, and CO/XO/DHs will quickly get to know you. Keep in mind JOs typically rotate around the ship during the course of a tour, for experience and exposure to all the ship's systems. You will be a JO on a destroyer, just another in the long line who have come before you, ready to learn your professional craft as a SWO, be guided and shaped by the goat locker and your senior petty officers, and mentored by officers senior to you. Standing late nights on watch, catching quick JORPs, doing your admin, sweating on the bridge learning to drive the ship in a busy harbor channel, studying your SWO quals, looking for the green flash, pinching yourself in great liberty ports around the world... It all awaits.

I've received the assignment, heading out for Comm school soon!

Tell me you know what a JORP is, and you will have my best wishes for a great, memorable and successful tour as part of the CRUDES Navy.
