DD has not decided if she would like to fly or travel by car for R day. Can anyone inform me of the
time frame that this decision needs to be finalized to allow flying arrangements to be made should she decide to go that path. BTW does anyone have pros/cons on their choice to fly/drive?

How far away do you live? What's the cost of airline tickets? It's easy enough to fly into EWR/LGA or Stewart/White Plains and drive to WP. Is your DD traveling alone or with family? Are you asking about your DD flying alone (arrangements made through WP)? << Pretty sure NC have to fly/arrive the day before. If family is going along, you won't have any contact with her after the 60 second good-bye. There is a parade in the evening of R-Day for parents/family but you won't be able to talk to your NC.

Car ride gives the family more time together before R-Day; if your DD is anxious and ready to just go, flying may be better. It's a 50/50 situation -- whatever works for your family.

If she's flying alone, the portal gives you the details. She,will fly the night before, stay at the doubletree, and take the bus the next morning with everyone else. Once she is processed, her flight ticket will be refunded. This is the one time where WP pays for the airfare.

It is a 12 hour trip from our home and if she flies it would be alone. I am aware that flight arrangements are to be made thru the portal, I was just wondering how late can that decision be made before it would be to late to make flight arrangements . thank you

I would call Carlson Wagonlit~they make the arrangements and would be able to answer that question.

There's probably a deadline on the portal. We drove up from GA. We spent 5 days in DC on the way, so that broke things up a bit. We also took the train to NYC on the Saturday before. Sunday was the welcome party at the Thayer...a nice chance to connect w/ other parents. I enjoy Rday...I've been to 4 now!

We are coming from Michigan, and we look forward to that time to spend with our son. Since my wife and I are driving regardless, there is no reason to have our son fly.

I did think I saw that the cadet can get reimbursed for gas if traveling by car. Can anyone confirm this?

Not exactly the going rate as far as the mileage, but better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Yes, true; you won't get it...it's in their account. Sure, you could require they turn it over to you...in truth, my first one never mentioned it and my second one offered it to me. I guess I could have "seen it," but opted to let him keep it since they don't have a whole lot of extra $.

If we are driving up 10 days early can we still get reimbursed? Or does it have to be within a few days of R-Day?

You still get reimbursed; it's for the mileage and one night in a hotel. The fact that you're going early doesn't matter.
