I am an appointee for the c/o 2017. I've read all over that the Academy has a flying club where cadets can rent aircraft and receive flight training. I already have a private license and was wondering how realistic it is for 4 degrees to be able to fly during the academic year. Are 4 degrees even allowed to fly? Does renting an aircraft have to be on a weekend pass? Is any cadet with a license permitted to rent the aircraft? How often do cadets (4th classmen specifically) even have time to fly? I've got tons more but this seems like a good start. Thanks!

Flying as a 4th degree

I was wondering the same thing as my DS also has his private license and would like to keep current during the 1st year.

Try searching around on the forum. This has been brought up many times. The big advantage you get is you can try out for the flying team. I don't know many details, but again, that has been discussed on here as well.

I can't speak to whether you will be permitted to rent but I can tell you if it is on base (which I believe is the case) then you will not need a pass. As for free time, if you are proactive about studying and not involved in IC sports then you should have time, but you will get a feel for that pretty quick once you get there. Give yourself a chance to settle in to the academics (I would stay study hard until prog) and then if you are doing well and have free time, look into it.
