Football days with your plebe

I understand, and am delighted they are here. My point was there doesn't seem to be any USMA folks today on this USMA thread, and I still don't know if I will be able to see my plebe Saturday or Sunday after a home football game. Hope I can though, as I just ordered two tickets for the game against Rice, and booked a hotel for Friday and Saturday nights.
I bet it was really easy to get the tickets and the hotel room, probably at a deep discount! :D
Oops...I did it again...too easy...:oops2:

Hey, by chance did you catch the army navy lacrosse game today, to determine who plays in conference championship game tomorrow? Just wondering who won.

....but back to football; do both Army and Navy have a sprint football team? Got to love sprint football; such a pure form of the game, and seems so perfect for service academies. I wonder which school is better at sprint football. Any idea?

I don't have an answer to your question, however, we plan on doing the same thing this fall, BROVOL. After seeing the mad house of Plebe Parents' Weekend this spring, I can only imagine what it would be like for Family Weekend with the whole corps' family members there on the same weekend. We really just want to spend time with our cadet and don't care so much for the tours, briefings, etc. We just hope we will get some time with our kid on the weekend we are planning to go and that he isn't tasked with weekend duties that he can't get out of. I guess we'll have to be flexible as the time approaches.

One of my first questions when my son was accepted to WP was 'do we have to go to the USMA football games?' LOL.
Now if the question is about watching hockey games - well, that's a whole 'nother thing! My DH and the boys did go up to watch a hockey game this year.
That said, for the first time EVER, we had our TV turned on to watch a football game this year!! Of course, it was the Army-Navy game. And I have to admit, that it did look like fun. So, maybe we'll become converts. Stranger things have happened...

We don't plan on attending any football or hockey games. Crew is where it's at for us, but we won't get to any races this year. We missed our cadet's boat win gold at the New York State Championships this afternoon. Maybe next year. Crew events are not as crowded as football. ;)

We are a big sports family, and root for my alma mater, my daughter's college, and now my son's (USMA) in all sports, and in everything else. The reason I ask the questions about football at WP is because I know football games are big events, and that the cadets are compelled to participate in the daily functions, which I think is part of why the academy game days are so special. My understanding was that in general cadets get free time on home game days after the game, but I wanted to confirm this. It's a 12 hour drive for us, so I want to make sure we get as much out of it as possible, and seeing our son is the biggest prize.

We may still attend parents weekend, but if we can accomplish everything we want (IE, spending time with our son), then we may just pick a couple other home games. We are all set for the Rice game, and can add another. Actually, there are tickets available for air force, which would be awesome, except that it is in November, and toes will get colder. But that might be a fun experience.

Still hope we get a resident expert to chime in.

According to Wikipedia, both USMA and USNA have spirit football teams.

According to this page, Army and Navy tend to alternate in winning in this league. Last year, Army won all the spirit football games. (7-0)

Army will play Navy on 11/4/16

My sarcasm must not have been as transparent as I thought.

Is this another place to highlight the difference between ROTC and SA? [emoji3]

Apparently it wasn't to the WP parents. :D
I thought Sunday's for you USNA parents were supposed to be reserved for finding ways to explain to friends and family why your kids wear those goofy white shoes. And for USMA parents Sunday's are spent thanking God for directing our children to the best academic and military education and experience in the world, at the most beautiful place on earth.

... at the most beautiful place on earth.
DD had visited WP and commented the beautiful buildings and settings so Hogwarts like. Then she added it took her two seconds to realize it is not next to DTA.;)

I think @brovol and I will become bff who root for a different school!

I'm good with that. During the next four years feel free to lean on me for consolement, because a new streak starts in 2016. And keep in mind, all of the academies are incredible. ....and just because the others are not quite as incredible as West Point does not mean a USNA parent should feel bad for your child. You should, however feel bad that your child has to wear those goofy white shoes. ...and remember always take pictures of your kid from the knees up, thus avoiding snickers when you are sharing the photo album with others.

GO ARMY!! BEAT NAVY!!

Making fun of white shoes at a school that wears capes, sashes and even has feathers on their parade covers... ;)

Hey, Superman has a cape, and sitting bull wore feathers on his head gear. Your priorities are screwed up. Must be that Annapolis water.

I was going to say, now go and spit-shine those white shoes, but I'm assuming midshipman would never want spit on their saucy white kicks. Probably use some French cream purchased at Saks Fifth Avenue.

All these bashing said by the same man who posted this below. Hmmm...

My son applied to all three...the one thing that keeps his interest in USNA is the options. USNA really does have everything, and so many really great career paths. I have encouraged my son to continue to consider USNA for that reason, and he has...I think USNA does seem to be the most popular though, and maybe "cooler". Definitely a better town for visiting parents too.

.....my son applied to ROTC, USAFA, USNA, and of course USMA, but WP was his dream school from the start. Before the deadline for ROTC, I encouraged him to think hard about it before he declined, and the same for USAFA. We visited USNA multiple times, as we did USMA. For him WP and the Army is the place to be.

I joke about USNA, as I love the rivalry, but each of these academies are incredible, and I would have glowed with pride if my son attended any of them. As it happens, my wife and I both shared my sons sentiment, and always hoped he would land at West Point, but we encouraged him to think hard about the pros and cons of all options. USNA has two services, and tons of options. That to me was its best selling point. I liked Annapolis too, but that was not a relevant factor. USNA does seem to be the most popular lately, but that isn't relevant either.

Once my son accepted his appointment to WP though, we are all in, and Go ARMY, beat Navy is the family battle cry. So even if some might say all the academies are equal, I am here to say that one is more equal than the rest. GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!!!!!!

Now go polish those goofy white shoes. Lol
