I'm entering HS after this summer. I've been contemplating whether or not to take Spanish 1 or Spanish 2. Would it affect me in a negative way if I started our HS w/ Spanish 1?

I know very few people who actually follow through with making it all the way to AP Spanish 4. So to answer your question, no, it will not negatively effect you if you start with either Spanish 1 or 2. Although I would highly recommend only taking Spanish 2 if you are comfortable with that leap, because the grade you receive in that class CAN negatively effect you.

Do you already have a Spanish 1 credit from Middle School somehow?

My take: I love language, but I hated the way my high school handled language classes. Nothing was serious, but the grades were. I once had a grade deduction for not using enough color in a coloring project which was completely unrelated to Spanish.

The most important thing you can focus on your Freshman year of high school is getting a 4.0; when your classes get hard enough that they require an actual input of work, you will thank me.

I took spanish but it doesnt matter anyways. when you get to usafa your gonna take a test and based on what you receive on that test determines what language they put you in. its a made up test with a made up language. it is to see how well you can take what they give you and figure out what Was said

Well I've taken Spanish 1 this year, I do have the choice to take Spanish 2. But this year I'm greatly disappointed in what the teacher has done. I can't even explain how bad it is through this. But let's just say, I have a basic idea of it, a general grasp. But I haven't learned as much as I should have. So I think at the HS next year it'll be much more serious, and I'll be able to succeed in Spanish 1 more than I'll be able to in Spanish 2. But by taking this Spanish 1 class it doesn't give me a HS credit, it just makes me eligible to take Spanish 2 freshman year.

It sounds like you've made up your mind then! If you don't feel completely comfortable with Spanish 1, I'd take it again. Your previous knowledge will just make it that much easier to get a high grade.

if you only have a grasp i recommend taking spanish 1 because spanish 2 is actually the most difficult year because you actually learn a lot of new material. spanish 3 is a review of 1 & 2 basically but all 3 years were a breeze for me. didn't take AP spanish because i already had a full course load of AP classes
