Form 34

IMHO, USAFA is very much about getting an academic education. I hear too many employing the "just finish" attitude. The ability to get though the intense stress, figuring out time management, etc is another form of education. But for me at least, the college classroom and learning the textbook material should be the students #1 goal (while learning how to manage time and pressures).

Yes and no.

Academics are the largest portion, time wise, but they are not the mission. "Developing leaders of character" is the mission.
Out of academics, athletics, and military duties, academics is probably the easiest to fail on (other than honor). Most cadets will struggle with something, but academics will likely remain the day-to-day priority.
So, yes, learning the academic material is VERY important, but the degree is really just the background requirement for the academy's actual mission.

Yes. He's going back to his reserve unit (which he loves) and starting at a university in the fall. He's very happy with his decision.
Great! That's all that matters. I'm happy with mine too. When my friends who are still at the Academy ask me if I regret leaving, I say, "No, but I don't regret going either." I made some good friends, learned some cool stuff, and had some good and bad times, but overall, it was just one chapter in my life, and I'm liking the new one just as much.
