I'm a single WP plebe parent. Through postings on an official WP parent list-serve, I have met many other single parents from all over the country.

We seem to have formed a bond not only based on our similar issues of being a SA parent, but also that we do not have the built-in emotional support from a spouse.

A few of us were discussing how to go about connecting with others in our same situation, possibly by way of a group email or chat room. We do not have much (if any) technical know-how or funds.

Does anyone have any suggestions for us on we can proceed?

Would this forum consider this type of group?

There are a few options, a couple of which involve starting your own MySpace or FaceBook pages and then forming a group for single SA parents. That's how my kids network. So far, I am not impressed with the list serves for the USMAPS parents or the WP prospective net. Maybe the WP plebe-net is better.

wpmom2011, know that every one of you is welcome here. The connection between SA parents is an important one. As we all know... we learn from each other. Feel free to invite others and use our chat rooms. You have a great idea rolling so feel welcome here.

    Thanks, jamzmom,

My friend (TX) and I (FL) are excited about the idea. She posted on plebe-net and got loads of positive responses from single parents and also from some married folks encouraging us to follow through.

Now we need to work out the logistics.

    Commissioner,

Having been a member of prospective-net, and now plebe-net, I have to say that it's been a great source of ACCURATE and helpful information. The moderators have been very dedicated and either know or can find out anything any of us parents ask about. They've truly been a blessing for us first time WP parents.

In my opinion, these sites have two drawbacks. 1. It is not a forum that allows much interaction between the parents - it is meant to be an informational website. 2. The amount of emails being posted can be overwhelming at times - especially when major events are upcoming.

The other moms I've met have only been because I've put small bits of personal info in the posting, which in turn brought about private emails (which has been wonderful) for this single empty-nester.

Now there's a small network of us - from TX, CA, WA, FL, CT, AR, WI, IL, AZ, ME - and we're trying to figure out how best to communicate with each other as a group and invite more to join in. So far, it's been only moms, but dads are certainly welcome, too.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'll check into Facebook and MySpace to see if this will work.

    You have our support.

Please work through jamzmom and then I can get working on whatever you two come up with.
