I didn't do so well freshman year, I had mostly B's and one C first semester in geometry and a D second semester in geometry. I did have one or two A's. But now I am doing much better. I have all A's and two B's and am in the top 10%-15% of my class (I am a sophomore) if I keep doing well and stay at the top of my class (this is all academically speaking, not including extra-curriculars and such) do i still have a chance despite freshman year?

thanks

everyone has a chance ... gpa is not the only criteria ... do a little research and you will see that many factors go into selection for an appointment ... or selection for any top college ... good luck and keep working hard ...

Glad to see yet another sophomore on these boards...like MJOmom said, more than GPA factors into selection...other things like athletics, leadership, etc. go into consideration...making these as strong as possible can make up for not amazing grades.

I would think that the academies like to see improvement over your high school career rather than a decline in grades. So keep up the good work and when time comes apply. You never know your real chances unless you apply!

Also... people ask must I be a 4.0 GPA student? You don't need to be! You have to show that you are a great candidate all around and that you are working hard in tough classes. I am mostly a B student all around (3.23 GPA), but I take all honors and AP classes and I have received an appointment to USMA. Class rank is looked at a little more than GPA, too. I am top 13%. Anyways Best of Luck!

I did lousy my freshman AND sophomore years. Did great Junior and Senior.

It was enough to get me into NAPS, and from there into the Academy.

If you ace Sophomore, Junior, and Senior, you'll be fine.

Go get 'em!
