It has been awhile since I've posted.

Since my DD was waitlisted and we had not heard anything, she has been making plans for her plan "b" option.

Yesterday she got the call that she is on the short list and would she still consider joining the class of 2015, if the appointment came available! (YES! of course!!)

We are still on this rollercoaster of emotions and are thrilled there is still a chance she'll be able to join the next incoming class.

Sooo... they informed us she is now #2 on the short list and we should get a call by Saturday..... (at least we aren't mailman stalking anymore...just checking our phones every 10 minutes for any missed calls...lol)

Thanks again to everyone who has given us advice and guidance through this very long journey! :w00t:

Oh my! Super exciting. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers this weekend. That will be a crazy adjustment for your daughter as that will be just a few weeks to throw it all in a bag and get to New London.

Good Luck and we are hoping she will be in motivated socks by the month's end.

Dear Suzief70,

Wow, that's great news. My DS was placed on the wait list also and had not heard anything so he called his AO yesterday. He was told that he most likely will get a letter soon stating that the wait list has been closed. So, I have to ask you... is your DD 100% positive that she wants to attend the United States Coast Guard Academy? Just Kidding, I know she is sure she does. Best of Luck and Godspeed.

Thanks for the well wishes!

We are waiting for that call!

Do you guys know of anyone else that has gone through this? Any idea of her actual chances of getting an appointment at this late date? He sounded pretty optimistic on the phone.....

And she is 1000% sure she's ready to go! She's already informed her dorm roommate of the possibility of the change of plans...

We'll keep you posted as soon as we know!

Thanks!!

Great story...hope she gets it!

Does she have a passport? At least applied? How about all the shots, dental exam etc? Just a few things she would need.

My DD got an update yesterday:

She is still #2 on the short list. With the target class size being met, she is waiting to see how much of a "cushion" they are going to make for any candidates receiving injuries, etc. prior to R day.

So any positive thoughts, ideas, prayers and anything else would be wonderful to help her become a step closer to achieving her dream.. she's sooooo close!

Thanks!

Wow they're really cutting things close. I know almost every year somebody doesn't show up for R-day...that happened on my son's in 2005...also one girl showed up in heels and by the end of the day she'd had enough...won the name "Cadet Kelly"(after the Disney movie)...so there's still hope! Pulling for her all the way!:thumb:

And a few will drop before the end of Week 1.

Sadly, neither scenario will help her get that appointment.

It's too bad that the "wait list" can't "wait" until 2 or 3 days after R-Day, thus refilling the class with a few candidates who may be more motivated than the ones that reported (and dropped) on R-Day.

And it just blows my mind how that could happen...how an applicant does not have any idea of what they are getting into....suzie70...prayers of hope to you and your family...no matter where your daughter ends up...she'll do great.

My DS's class had quite a few drop ON R-Day. A couple before lunch.

I, too, wish that they could fill in the class on day 2 or 3....even if it was only a few extra appts....it sure would be great for those on the short waitlist! I guess days 1 and 2 are important for the swab summer experience though...

Finally! An answer!!

It's a YES!!!

I am proud to say that my DD has been granted an appointment to join the Class of 2015!

This has been such a journey for our family. I have gone from having to say good bye at college in 3 months to saying goodbye in 21 days.... oh my.

Thank you to everyone for your warm wishes and support!
