Our son is in the class of 2014. He will turn 19 next month and our health insurance carrier sent us a letter this week asking us to prove he is a college student with full-time status.

I asked our cadet and he didn't have any suggestions for us other than a copy of his ID (really?) or his grade report.

Can any parents or moderators give me suggestions as to where to call or contact to get the appropriate letter?

    Thanks in advance!

You are still paying for his health insurance even though he is fully covered by tricare?

Have your son contact the S1 and they will provide him with a letter signed by the office of the dean stating he is a full time student and also active duty army.

Thanks for the information, and yes, we still have him on our insurance. For us, if you pay for one dependant the coverage covers your whole family.

I'll have him follow your instructions. Thanks again!

No problem, I needed to do the same thing in order to get cheaper plane tickets last year. It takes 5 minutes to walk there and get the paperwork done. In case he doesn't know where to go: it's on the fourth floor of Washington Hall.

AF, how did you get the cheaper plane tickets? What should my cadet do?

I had a special case were my mom works for a company which pays for one plane ticket a year for any children who are full time students. Here is a site someone recommended to me but I have not personally used yet:

    http://www.studentuniverse.com/

I am sure if you looked around you'd be able to find many more places with specials for full time students.

Our insurance sent a form that needed to be signed by the school. I sent it to my son, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope, and he dropped it off with the registrar in the Dean's office. They do these things all the time. You can also call the registrar's office at 914-938-2050.

Yes, we have kept him on our private insurance the entire time he has been at USMA. It doesn't cost us anything extra and if he left USMA (for whatever reason) we would not have to deal with the hassle of getting him back on our insurance.
