Future service academy graduates/going into war

I mean those who are already appointed not applying. Many of which will be combat roles.

Understood, and fair points. OP did say "Current graduates", so that changes the math. You can skip Rock Math, tell them I told you so!

And I suspect we all hope ISIL/ISIS is not an issue for long. I'm not optimistic given the nature of asymmetric warfare, religious politics, and power vacuums.

Yea, I'm hoping the Kurdish and Iraqi army can fend them off enough so we won't have to be involved.

I'm 61.533% sure that the next major conflict will be US and EU vs Russia and China.

I don't know about that, Russia knows to push our buttons but even though they are portrayed as being nearly as good as the US, they don't have the same kind organization and military power that we do. If there is one thing that would advance combat tech by 20 years it would be a war with Russia.

I see what you are saying, but of course I've never been to Russia, and honestly their TRUE military strength is quite secluded, as is China's, but one thing is for sure, them combined literally is the strongest (in numbers) military. Yeah and our combat tech would advance, if we were still a functioning nation after the fallout.

Just watch this propaganda video!!!!

I agree that Russia likes to push our buttons but they're not stupid enough to do something that would engage us. They're just like to poke their finger at us to feel big every once in awhile. Now, your claim that in this imaginary conflict that China will side with Russia over us is completely wrong. The world economy is a delicate thing and is, for the most part, dependent on the US and China AND we are dependent upon each other. They would not risk that relationship on an old Cold War grudge/world superpower pissing contest.

On a side note, Russia is a continual problem because Putin doesn't care for western international relationship and picks on the little, former satellites. They are not a real threat at the moment. Our current immediate threat is Iran. That's who you should be concerned about currently.

I hate how people completely despise Israel in the US when they are pretty much the buffer between us and the entire Middle East.

There is an awful lot of strange conjecture in here, little of which is based on anything but wave top new items and broad-brush generalizations.

Why is Iran our immediate current threat?
Where do you see widespread hatred for Israel in this country?

There is great folly in assuming that conflict with either Russia or China will be dependent upon conventional military force, or sheer numbers.

...they [Israel] are pretty much the buffer between us and the entire Middle East.

$3+ bil/yr US foreign aid to Israel, veto power on the UN Security Council, and another $2+ bil./yr. in aid to Egypt and Jordan says you may have your calculus backwards.

I said nothing about a majority of people disliking Israel I said that I don't like when people do not like Israel. I don't how you took my comment that way.

I didn't. Scout asked where you see widespread hatred of Israel in the US.

I said, by implication, that the US is more of a buffer between Israel and the Middle East than Israel is a buffer between "us and the entire Middle East". A huge part of that buffer is the $3+ bil./yr we give Israel and the $2+ bil./yr we give the only two Arab states that recognize Israel's right to exist. The US' undying and unequivocal support in all international organizations of which we and they are a part, which I favor, is infinitely more important to Israel that their support is to the US.

In case you haven't noticed, there is no geopolitical/geostrategic/military buffer between the US and the Middle East. We are right smack in the middle of it and beyond, from Libya to Lahore.

You said the following:

I hate how people completely despise Israel in the US

If you meant you are bothered by the rare instance of someone "completely despising" Israel, you should say it in those terms. When you say "people in the US" it suggests a widespread and pervasive belief.

Ok sure. Who knows what they'll do, but one things for sure. If one fights, the other will too on the same side. They are practically brothers (sisters), like we are to Canada. Canada will never fight against us EVER. There is simply to much on the table with the close proximity.

You are right the world economy is a delicate thing.... but how does that have any influence on your claim? if anything countries want to improve wartime efficacy by bonding together and from another point of view losing half their populations due to a single border war.

Lol and Iran. I can see them becoming friends, sort of like Cuba is now. They should be a concern, but looking into the farther than near future, the differences and similarities in interest of nations around the globe place NA and Eu against Russia, China, etc, no way around it.

Let's be honest if its nuclear its sheer numbers -- (numbers of nukes, peoples, population distribution)

They are practically brothers (sisters)

They being Russia and China? Read Khrushchev Remembers sometime. Maybe their national interests don't conflict at this time, but Slavs are in perpetual fear of being overrun by "little yellow people"(their term, not mine). The demographics of Russia suggest that it is already happening.

Part of a lengthy and memorable toast at my wedding reception in Krakow, April 30, 1980: "Today we are drunk. Tomorrow we will be red (reference to the next day being May 1), Next year we will be yellow."

With all due respect, are you insane?

The Chinese are interested in expanding their hegemony in the South and East China Seas. Russia is interested in expanding its sovereignty/hegemony over the former Soviet Republics and keeping some kind of buffer between that area and NATO. The Chinese are doing things like capturing fishing vessels of the high seas and building islands outside of their territorial waters. The Russians are threatening neighbors with everything from invasion to energy embargoes to civil unrest. All the while, they watch us pound sand in the Middle East. I don't think nukes, tanks and F35s will solve this.

Scout is absolutely correct.

I don't understand. Wouldn't the mixing of both races (Caucasian and Asian) be a sign of positive integration? Borders are open. Canadians live all along the northern border of the U.S., and Hispanics along the south, our views between the three nations are generally similar, but we aren't afraid that we are going to be overrun by Hispanics.

Houston is the most diverse city in the usa. One of the highest percentages of Hispanic ethnicity due to its proximity to Mexico and the welcoming immigration policy of the U.S. And Arguably the single most booming economy in the United States right now. Is it due to Mexican immigration and unskilled labor, low wages etc? maybe. Probably more because of its location (port of Galveston, oil, etc), but it proves that Texas being overrun by "little muchachos" isn't ruining anything socially or economically. I could say "oh I don't want Mexicans in my country we are going to be overrun", and I would be in the same minority as the Slavs you characterized. We call them rednecks here in the USA, and thank god they are a minority right now. Just proves that spikes in legal immigration doesn't represent a sudden discordance between nations.

The United States doesn't dislike Mexico or Canada and a minority of Slavs calling immigrating Chinese "yellow men" and being concerned about increasing racial diversity doesn't speak for Russia as a whole, which I'm 100 percent sure is open and welcoming to the immigrating Chinese. It's all about the location of countries from one another.

You are assuming that both Russians and Chinese view immigration the same as progressive Americans. What do you base that assumption on?

Russia and China cooperate when it suits them. They also have a history of border conflicts when their interests don't align. During the Cold War there was also a large ideological split between Soviet and Chinese communism. Add to that clashes between European and Asian cultures, nationalist egos, and outright racism.
