Game of the SEASON!

We were at the game, and it was thrilling, but oh so sad in the end, especially since everyone thought he would make the kick. When he didn't everyone just looked at each other baffled, thinking our eyes were deceiving ourselves. Hornet's mouth was open for so long flies could have mated and had gnats by the time he closed it. What made me feel so sad was the kicker was down on the ground crushed and the photographer wouldn't leave him alone, just circling him taking photos.

We definetely got our money's worth!

Perfect football weather in Annapolis, and I can tell you the Navy folk I spoke with at various post-game functions, including mids, all felt for the cadet who missed the kick. Could easily have been Navy who missed. Hard-fought game, with the usual something special about an SA-SA match-up. Everyone is part of the same family, regardless of color of uniform or whether the uniforms have been hung up in the storage closet. Fun seeing the AF falcon and Navy goats hanging out in the endzone. Some mighty fine tailgaters on both sides pre, during and post-game...

Now MJ, we could have hooked up and had our secret super handshake, since I was wearing my Ann Hand AF pin!

The only problem with seeing a game like that one was it took us 1 hour to go 1/2 of mile. For those of you who don't know Annapolis, it is literally a 1 road town in and out :unhappy: They had the 3rd highest attendance ever with close to 40K people. They had people standing for 4 hours because the hill was packed. The hill, is at the end zone and you bring blankets to sit on, so once it is filled and you have a hill ticket, you are SRO.

Now the funny part, we were with our friends that (AF) and a cadet, the Navy choir sings, and we are still standing waiting for the 18s to fly over...waiting...waiting...waiting...looking up in the sky to see where they will come from...NOTHING! To the point we looked at each other and said maybe they aren't doing one! Finally they flew over, our other friend sitting next to me, said they must be on NAVY time, not AF time :shake:

The other funny story is another AFA grad has a son at the USNA. Hornet was with us and made a comment about the AF doesn't wear skirts (pipe and drums), I told him be careful X might be offended. He said: NO WAY I called our son and said it is suppose to be 70 and sunny is that skirt weather?:jump1:

The only time I felt there was poor sportsmanship, and it occurred when the AF qb literally rolled over his head on a play, he was laying on the field for a few minutes, and the midshipmen were not silent, instead doing cheers (not yea he was down, but akin to let's go Navy!). That was wrong. I would feel the same if the AF did it if roles were reversed.

It was great though, more amazing is how you run into people you have not seen for yrs, almost like a squadron reunion.

Pima, two years from now for Navy-AF, PM me and I will give you all my tips for getting to the stadium via back roads and missing the US50 off-ramp onto Rowe Blvd. I tell out-of-towners/non parking pass holders to park at the Harry S Truman lot off Riva Rd (free) and take the shuttle (free) to and from the game.
Yeah, a bit of a delay, but if the script runs ahead or behind of the time slot for the flyover, it can mess with the pilots' timing -- and you can only step on the gas so hard over Naptown without rattling the windowpanes and getting the citizenry in a boil.
I was the one in blue and gold, how did you miss me?? I had the requisite hand-painted Bill the Goat earrings. :shake:

pima, i agree with the sportsmanship piece on that injury. that really bugged me. it was also odd having the band play during one of the plays, and having the cannon go off in the middle of a play...

the most heart crushing thing i've witnessed. it was nice to see friends again (exchanger last fall) and sing with glee club again (and i sang, left, and got to AF side before the flyover!), but that end was rough. we were all cheering "remember TCU!" in the cadet section, but sadly it went the other way. i prolly just sat and stared for 20 min in the stands after the final note of "Blue and Gold".

but as the article said, at least we have a conference play to look forward to! (although it's gunna be tough with so many ranked opponents left to play)

I didn't realize that was you when I met you, since Hornet gave you a real name. Bullet told me after you left, you know that was eagle?

MJ I was wondering why there were so many school buses. We parked at the elementary school. I said to Bullet, that school must get nice gifts from the PTA. 20 bucks a pop for cars, you have to figure they make close to 20K every fall.

if only we'd had ryan harrison for that game...

such a good guy. and an awesome kicker too

Indeed Ryan is a great guy. Know him personally, and he's a class act. But to be honest, I don't put any blame on Soderberg for the end of that game. No one is perfect, and soderberg has been kicking quite well. Maybe not a Ryan Harrison, but he's only a C3C. The loss of that game goes to the fact that our offense has NOT scored a score in 9 quarters of play. ALL points in the Navy game, the SDSU game, and the last quarter of the New Mexico game has come 100% from the Defense and Soderberg's kicking. Now, whether the offensive issue is because of player combination or play calling by the coaches, the bottom line is that you CAN'T WIN a game, if you don't score. And we haven't scored and OFFENSIVE Touch-Down in MORE than 2 games. That is why we lost. Later... Mike....
