General’s A-10 treason comment

...Don't hold your breath.

Look at the recent history of USAF aircraft acquisitions.

Saw this article yesterday saying Air Force considering A-10 replacement for future close air support. Not my areas of expertise. Article is interesting.

I don.t like the article. It reads like a diversion

- DoD budget is not going to increase
- AF is not going to spend less on F35
- AF wants new long ranger bombers

So where will the funding for A-10 replacement.

I am reading A-10 replacement as more F-35.

My husband is cursing the Air Force right now lol. He left the Bulldogs at Davis-Monthan a month before those orders to Eastern Europe came down. He could have been in Germany and Poland right now enjoying some cultural exchanging over libations. haha.

Member - AF is saying the F-35 will replace the A-10. They need to declare the people who think that is true as clinically insane...

I think it is partially true - F35 will replace A-10 as the user of funding for A-10, but not the CAS mission itself.

The F-35 was never built to be a CAS machine like the A-10. That's pretty obvious. The F-35 is a multi-role fighter--jack of all, master of none.
Sure, some capabilities overlap, but the F-35 won't be running multiple gun passes at 100m from friendly troops anytime soon.

and you fly what Raimius?
UH-1N. That's not really relevant though.

Look, the F-35 will be able to do some really cool things, when it's fully operational. That said, it does not have the air to ground capacity of the A-10, by pure numbers. Additionally, F-35 crews will not be primarily focused on air to ground operations like the A-10, unless ACC decides it's no longer a multi-role fighter.

Just wanted to know your background so everyone can see where you're coming from. It would seem like your expertise is from reading articles vice actually doing CAS as a FW or RW guy.... The F-22/15 are the air dominance fighters for the AF. You are correct in that the F-35 is a multi-role fighter. However it's primary mission will be AI, SEAD, and CAS.

Raimius has been posting on this forum for over 8 years, we already know his background and where he is coming from. The only thing anyone knows regarding your background is that you first asked about Invisible Braces and Dodmerb and by your name you drive a Dodge.

Okay folks...disengage...or in terms others know and understand: "knock it off." We're not here to start picking at each other. Knowing each others background so we might better understand their opinion...that's fine, but lets not let this decay into a "I know more than you because my skill set is..."

That'd be like me picking on viperdriver and saying something silly like: "I'm an Eagle driver...a true fighter pilot, I don't move mud like a lawn dart driver..." That would insult him/her with a silly comment. Viper pilots, Eagle pilots, and others...we pick at each other as family...but we know each has a specific ability that is second to none! Long range, air dominant intercept/air supremacy...that's the Eagle's world...BFM, multi-role missions...that's the Viper's realm (I'm leaving out several: SEAD, etc.). The F-35...nobody really knows yet...we know what we "think" but I would bet "Bullet" is the only person here that really knows...and he can't speak because of clearance issues.

Let's not take this down the wrong slope.

Never claimed to be a CAS expert. I don't even know how many 30 mm rounds F35 carries, how much redundant system A 10 has in comparison to F35, what's minimum speed F35 can fly, runway type and lengths it needs, forward deployment support requirements, and etc. My portion of the discussion was about an Army guy's, customer, perception of AF's view on CAS and their priorities. Without going into my extensive background I know how how to read and I know how to add numbers. It seems like you are trying the change the subject.
