Hello! I have a few questions pertaining to being a girl at the Naval Academy during plebe summer.

    1. What all are we permitted to bring of our own to plebe summer? Can we bring our own tampons, razors, hair products, face wash, photos, etc. or is everything issued?

    2. SHAVING. Is there any time to do it? Does it really matter that much? Is it recommended to get your legs waxed prior to I-Day?

    3. Underwear. I know underwear is issued to us for plebe summer, but afterwards does the color or anything matter?

    4. Birth Control. My mom was wondering if it would be a good idea or not to start on BC. I have a rather irregular cycle and it would be quite embarrassing to get a surprise while wearing white surrounded by mainly men. :help:

    5. Are stud earrings permitted? Or do we have to remove them beforehand

    6. Anything else to add? THANK YOU so much for all of your help!! :D

    1. You can bring your own but will be issues everything. wiule bring your own feminine hygiene gear if you have specifics you like.

    2. Not much time. No one cares and no one is looking. Do what makes you comfortable. I think I skipped my legs for plebe summer and did the pits every few days as that only took seconds.

    3. After the summer, no it doesn't matter. Wear what you want.

    4. Your call. If you do, recommend you start immediately to ensure you have sometime to get used to it and ensure its the right kind. Going to be brutally honest here... For some with the intensity and exercise they can lose it plebe summer or it can go nuts. If you have an issue, need more products, etc just say something. Yes it can be awkward to ask but they don't want to embarrass you, it's their job to care for you. The chances are very high you will have a female detailer if not within your platoon but definitely in your company. You can always ask to speak with her. Bottom line, everyone is professionals and will help you out if something comes up.

    5. Yes but not in Plebe Summer. You can buy them at the Mid Store that are within regs and cheap. Maybe something you can pick up Parents weekend or mom and dad at I day and bring them parents weekend.

    6. Feel free to ask any questions or PM me. It's been awhile since I was there but I used to lived by USNA for years and my best buds sponsor Mids. Sounds like not much has changed

Last I heard from my buddy stationed there is they are doing a trial run with female plebes not cutting their hair if they so choose. Not sure if that has been formalized yet or not. All rumor until then. To be honest long hair when you know how to do a fast bun is so much easier and looks better.

In the PTR packet, it says girls' hair should be above the chin on I-Day.

Well that answers the question. Guess they aren't going that route. I cut mine before I Day. It's your choice to cut it beforehand or not. If you wait and have it done by USNA it will be the fastest haircut ever. The general rule is they cut it to the top of your jawline.

Are we allowed to bring our own sports bras?
I am concerned because I have no idea what type/brand they issue, and for my bust size, a proper sports bra is crucial.

Yes you can. They issued pretty decent ones and you will get them regardless. Not sure about now, but they used to issue Champion brand. Not sure about now. Your PTR packet has a list of things to bring. The list will say to bring white more than likely. You can always bring more, just gotta lug it around. But yes a decent sports bra is key! Also if you need more, mom can mail some. You will sweat a ton, you will probably go through 2 a day and pretty much be in these all of Plebe Summer except when trying on regular uniforms.

I'll address a couple of your questions from my perspective as the mom of a current plebe girl:
    5. My daughter talked to her doctor and took the birth control pills during plebe summer at the advice of this forum. She took the pill constant during plebe summer so as not to have a cycle at all until plebe summer was over. This worked out well for her as one less thing to have to worry about during a stressful time. She took a prescription with her but they threw them away on I-Day and gave her some that day when she went through the medical processing.
    6. We purchased regulation earrings at the Midstore over PPW. We then gave her some dressier ones for Christmas that were also within regulations.

Exactly what my parents did for me on #6. Purchased ones for regular uniforms at mid store over PPW and they got me the regulation pearl earrings for Mess Dress.
