hi,
I was accepted to usafa summer seminar and NASS, and I am beginning to compile my packing list. A question came up. I am most comfortable while wearing contact lenses. I understand though there is a limited time to get dressed and "on the wall" in the mornings. will i be able to wear my contacts? with PT and everything, I believe that contacts would be a better choice, but I am unsure of how to go about that. thank you in advance.

I don't wear glasses or contacts so I can't really help with which is a better option, but as far as time in the morning goes, the only time we really were crunched was the morning of Doolie for a Day. Every other day we were responsible for getting ourselves up. Our element leader just gave us a time and location to meet so if you need more time in the morning just plan accordingly. You may just want to wear glasses on Doolie for a Day though. They will kick and pound on your door until your out. It gets loud. Can't speak for NASS though. Sorry.

For USAFA SS, I used contacts last year most of the time, but for the "Doolie for a Day" (it was really just "doolie for a morning" because it ended after lunch...) I wore my glasses in the morning then changed to contacts in the small break in between breakfast after the morning work out.

Hope that helped!

I can't speak for NASS because I didn't go there, sorry.

I will chime in for the NASS side of things since I went. I do not wear contacts or glasses, but my roommate did. Every morning consisted of banging on the doors and yellling down the hall to get to formation. For me at least, it was kind of frustrating having to wait for her to put her contacts in since we were not allowed to leave our swim buddy, yet the detailers wanted you in formation as soon as possible. She was fine with the contacts, but it definately made getting to formation every morning on time kind of stressful. It is a personal decision, but if you are going to wear contacts, make sure you can put them in fast and with people screaming and yelling at you about out slow you are.

contacts

My DS attended NASS last year and wore his contacts everyday. He didn't seem to have a problem; just allowed allowed himself the time needed.

When I attended the AFA SS last year I wore contacts every day. However, if I remember correctly, on Doolie for a day I forgot to put my contacts on or grab my glasses before lining up against the wall. Fortunately, I have about 20/40 vision, so I was able to make it through the morning without them.

The only I would recommend for NASS is bringing glasses or goggles just in-case for the day you do Sea Trials. You will do a lot of PT in the mud and sand and getting something caught in your eye while wearing contacts can be a problem.
