    Hello,
Im a high school junior. I have glasses but I can see pretty well without them. It's only for seeing really far that I need them. If I were at the Academy, would I be required to wear the dorky ones they issue? I also swim and can see perfectly with normal uncorrected goggles.

    Thanks,
    AH

Yes, you'll be be issued BCGs for BCT. You can choose to wear them or not.

I would recommend it for CADM though.

Here's the deal. The minute you signed the paper and took your oath, you became an adult. Even if you're 17 years old. They will not tell you to wear glasses or not. You're a big boy/girl now.

I will say however that you would be foolish to not do the paperwork and get the BCG. (Birth Control Glasses). You might find that time when your eyes are tired and you want a pair of glasses to wear. Then you'll have a pair.

On a side note: Why do you care if you wear the "Dorky" glasses? Are you planning on dating during BCT? Are you trying for a fashion statement. Heads up: By the 2nd day there, even if your PARENTS are standing at the wall by the chapel looking down at you 100 feet away, then wouldn't recognize you no matter what. You and 1356 other cadets will look exactly the same. Hell, sometimes you can't even tell girls from boys at 50 feet away. Just get the glasses and have them available in case you need them. Best of luck. mike....

As a freshman, you can date other freshmen, but not upperclassmen. Yes, you are issued a military ID.

During BCT, you are supposed to wear the issued glasses. (IMO, this is to prevent basics from wearing contacts, which can cause serious medical problems if you are not careful.)

As this applies to all basics, it doesn't really matter. No one really cares how you look, aside from proper uniform wear.

(And it is CATM: combat arms training and maintenance, not CADM)

I wish I got my BCGs when I went to BMT. :( They never issued them to me though, even though I needed them. Haha. I wore my Civilian Glasses all through BMT.

If BCT is anything like BMT you're not going care nor is anyone else going to care what you look like.

Also, if you're worried about dating/wearing glasses; your priorities aren't too straight.

You should work that out before you attend.
