Go NAVY, Beat ARMY

I'll explain. West Point put in their "backup" quarterback Angel after the "starter" was not doing so well.

This piece couldn't be more timely. Some disgruntled folks out there.

Pretty much, besides the patriotism and nostalgia the game isn't really relevant. I would hardly consider it D1 (Maybe D1AA) football. Watching the the teams play has always been a great past time but with the uber competitiveness of the SEC/Big 10/PAC 12 players being groomed just to play in the NFL its hard to stop and watch the game year after year and take it seriously. Turned the game off halfway through and watched sportcenter for the Heisman Award and NFL games tomorrow...

You can't produce America's "best" officers, be a top-tier university and triumph on the gridiron. Just doesn't happen.

Thanks for the post Scout. Very witty and even managed to get digs in for CGA! Don't know how Air Force and MMA were left out though. That ought to get some more discussion rolling! Just like it does every year!

You missed the point, and I don't think you're too up on football. Hard to say it's not D1 football when Air Force and Navy pitch multiple 8 & 9 win seasons over the past decade. Notre Dame survive Navy on the last play.

It's not relevant because it's predictable. The writer has a solid point. A competitive game would be very palatable to the public. It just needs to be competitive again and that's Army's issue.

Now that's funny! Especially since I didn't realize West Point had a quarterback on the field!

FYI....On a related note, CBS Sports Network (on DISH it's 158) is replaying the hour long documentary "Army-Navy" tonight at 7:00 pm EST.

It's about the 1963 game, when Army-Navy was very relevant (as you all know Navy played for the national championship that year). Very enjoyable and can take us back to the day when an entire nation would watch. I miss those days.

I would maintain MOST people have no idea what West Point is (and that should scare us). But they do know who Kanye West is, so we're half way there.

I do know between 4 and 1,500 people who know what the Coast Guard Academy is.

Of course, I also have no idea what that website is... so I guess I could say "there's a reason no one has heard of gfor3.com.

I was referring to Army not being D1.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I am very on top of football be it college or NFL (specifically college where I spend an obscene about amount of time watching highlights, analyzing videos and following blogs) and it is the one sport I feel I am sufficently knowledgeable about. AF traditionally has been a decent team and Navy has some upsets but the Army hasn't been good for a long while. Are they D1 caliber? Probably not. Navy sure has some bright spots against contenders and even though AF was abhorrent this year they aren't a "bad" team. The questions comes into play when discerning if they are truly D1 caliber consistently. Army definitely not, Navy and AF I would say yes against the lower to mid echelon of D1 teams.

Navy doesn't even play in a real league (yet) but I still consider them D1 caliber

AF is definitely D1 caliber in the Mountain West even though they were lackluster this year

Army is independent and has been historically terrible for a long while even when playing mediocre to bad teams (Although it wasn't a blowout loss vs Stanford this year), I would consider them at the D1AA level

A D1 vs D1AA historical game won't be relevant again until Army can recruit better (or push themselves back into D1 competitiveness) and I don't know why the AF/Navy has been better at this for a long while. The game yesterday didn't have one inkling of competitiveness. The Navy steam rolled Army's defense because they are bigger, faster, stronger period.

Not what you said, so you can see the confusion.

This is not a revelation.

I heard an interesting argument the other day that suggested that all the SA's play DIAA FCS, in the Ivy League for example. Part of the discussion was how it would change the recruiting and real reasons they would come to a SA.

I'd be interested in hearing from all those are engaged in this thread as to your views as to the up's and down's of this.

Foolish on multiple levels. The Ivy League isn't looking for members. Navy will join the AAC next year. Air Force is in the Mountain West. Both win consistently.

If we're going to discuss that, let's discuss moon colonies next. They're just as likely.

That article was right. Ellerson needs to go. So does that a**clown Boo Corrigan. Clean house. Hire Jeff Monken. STFU and win.

Nick Saban is not going to leave Alabama for WP. He's all about the money and the notoriety.

Why would anyone leave a program like Alabama to go to WP? Or anywhere else for that matter?

Dude, we got it. It was funny, but it wasn't funny enough to produce additional commentary.

Good idea on Monken. He could be a really solid hire. By the way, Army announced that Ellison has been fired.
