Good luck NY Maritime on your Sea Term

Monkeys on the Rock

Azores, check. Gibraltar, check - did you know monkey's wander all over the Rock? On to Iceland! And Kiel fest was too crowded to find a berth, so maybe Hamburg as the last stop.

Those "monkeys" have been known throughout history as the "Barbary Apes."

Legend has it that as long as the Barbary Apes live on Gibraltar it will stay under British Rule.

I think Churchill went as far as importing new apes to Gibraltar during WWII when their numbers dwindled to single digits.

Blue Nose?

You learn something every day, from apes to becoming a Blue Nose when crossing the Arctic Circle. Is that like becoming a Shellback?

Ok, on to Belfast!

Since they were too late applying for a berth in Kiel, during Kiel fest, then they thought, while on the way - Hamburg! Hamburg too complex/expensive to berth, so let's try - BELFAST! They speak english there and any port has pubs...

Last year, the same thing happened when they planned St. Petersburg and ended up in Estonia...which was pretty cool, all in all.

Life at sea and a maritime college is an adventure.

The "Empire State" returned to New York on July 17th after having visited The Azores, Gibraltar, Iceland and Belfast. The link below is an Image Gallery of the ship pulling into New York Harbor and finally docking at Ft Schuyler. Welcome home!
