Thank you, and likewise!
Good luck to all the Cadets....
Thompson and 5socks5,
Thanks to the both you for your posts. Your dedication and commitment to serve your country is to be commended. Thanks not only to the two of you, but all the Cadets and Midshipmen who have decided to serve the greatest country in the world. The United States of America.
PS Thompson, I see your at Penn State/UP great campus have a great time
God Speed and God Bless,
God speed to all of you. Thank you for wanting to defend this great nation.
A couple of tips for the folks.
1. Contracted recipients will need their original birth certificate and SS card.
~~~~ Send a pre-paid addressed envelope for them to mail it back to you. Do one that can be tracked....i.e FedEX is my preferred method.
2. Visit your family doc and bring a CD-ROM with you. Ask them to download all of their medical records onto the rom.
~~~~ G forbid they need to visit urgent care or an ER, their medical history is there and they can just hand it over to them. Most kids that have medical allergies know they have an allergy, but can't remember is it penicillin or amoxycillin. Did they get pins for their break when they were 15 or 16?
3. They are now 18. Legal adult. Yes, still your child, but by military standards are no longer a minor. That open communication last yr between HQ XROTC may now be shut closed.
~~~~ All you can do now is be a sounding board. It is up to them now to find the time and fix it.
JMPO and the circular filing cabinet is there to throw my opinions away.
I am wishing all the cadets on this forum a successful year this year as well. My DS left yesterday morning to get settled into his new apartment before the semester begins next week. It will certainly be a big year for him because he will be competing for a Field Training slot as a 200 in AFROTC. Fingers crossed!
Thanks much RGK!
And yes, UP is definitely amazing!
I'm heading into my 200 yr as well. I'm nervous, but excited, this will certainly be a big year, I can feel it! Already crossing my fingers too, I hope the best for your DS as well
Good luck Non Ducor Duco, you are in my prayers! I feel confident that you and my DS will do just fine.
The Birth certificate thing would have been nice to know before they showed up last week. You would think that would have been part of the "Welcome Aboard" package.
Chiming in: us too!
We dropped our son off at SIU last week, went to his AFROTC orientation and met his cadre, future cadets and several sets of parents.
He is in really good hands and having a blast with the cadets and his campus ministry group. His roommate is also AFROTC and a pretty good fit for him.
PIMA - thanks again for all your practical advice and timely encouragement. You are a treasure, God bless you.
Welcome to all incoming freshman Cadets! Work hard this year so you can set a good path for yourself when it's your time to shine in FTP year.
Also goodluck to all FTP members! Remember to never quit!
