Hi! I'm new to this so hopefuly I will post this correctly.
Just got a letter in the mail today stating that my son got the medical waiver. Yes that is good news but no appointment letter yet...
I heard that if you are competitive they will give you the waiver...so I'm assuming this a a "huge" sign? Or maybe they just don't want him to think that the waiver was the main thing why he did get in?
I would appreciate some thought on this

This is good because it means he's "competitive."

Does it mean he's getting an appointment? No. Does it tell you anything OTHER than "he's competitive?"

No.

But it IS good!!! It means he will now go before the selection board "qualified" for admission. Now they won't look at the medical, they'll focus on the rest of the "package."

Something you didn't mention: Does your son have a NOMINATION??? If he doesn't, then no waiver in the world is going to get him an appointment.

But assuming he does have a nomination, then like flieger said, it's good news. Now he can have his application scored and compete against the others wanting an appointment. Best of luck to you. mike....

Yes! He does have a nomination.
Thank you all for the quick response :thumb:
I guess I should have used this forum a long time ago...
I really have mixed feelings right now...happy for the waiver...terrified that my only child might be gone in a few months...so hard! I try to remind myself that this is his dream...like when I saw him flying for the first time last yr. Even though the instructor was with him  I'm a silly mom!

Thank you again sooooooooo much for taking the time to respond.

Hello,

Just a quick question. How long did it take for you to find out if he was granted a waiver? I am also under the waiver process. My records were sent to the waiver authority last week, and I was just wondering how long it usually takes before they make their decision.

Thank you.

A1C#9 - As I've told you already, each case is different. There is NO way to compare one case to another in terms of the time it takes. There are too many variables:thumb:

ymg - you are not a silly Mom - every Mom feels that way including this one:wink:

well, after we sent the aditional paper work it took 4 months...but everybody is different because people have different reasons for a waiver...and I mean different diagnosis. Hope all goes well for you...hang in there.
