AS my username implies im currently a sophmore
I do plan on retaking it
I am aiming for perfection or something > 33

for now i am alright with these scores (not too satisfied but not disappointed)

What do u guys think in terms of being academically qualified for USNA?

    Math 31
English (with essay) 28, without essay- 27(the essay helped:)
    Reading 27
    Science 26 (needs improvement, right?)

My first choice is USNA, but also serious considering all the other academies too along with Duke, Cornell, and Clemson (SC resident, clem as backup).

Looks like a great start! The more practice and actual tests you do, the more likely you are to improve! My older son got his up 4 points (composite) just by taking it 3 times and doing some practice tests in the meantime.

My middle son (junior) got his scores this morning and was shocked on the science. He took the Dec ACT and thought the science was REALLY hard and got a 30. Part of the reason he wanted to take it again was to improve that score. He thought this science test was much easier and was not happy to see he had a 27 this morning on that section! (By far the lowest of his scores). He loves science and actually hopes to major in Chemistry so although he was glad to have raised his English and Reading scores, the science was enough to keep his composite the same. So you may find you do better on future science sections if this is any indication!

    Good luck!

Math is great! I would suggest retaking it to raise the other scores though....tip for the science section: DON'T read the directions or look at the graphs. Just read the questions and take whatever information that ya need.

you have to have a strategy before you go into the tests, and why not use the best?

They're pretty good. Take the SAT too. Math is the part they like best too, so a high math grade is good.

having taken 11 practice test at home and earning as high as 32 comp (28 comp is the lowest i scored on my practice tests at home), 28 on the real deal seems like a fair way down. On the other hand, a 28 comp is estimated at 1920 on sat and I have taken psat earlier with a disappointing 165= 1650 on sat. 270 point improvement is one thing i look positively at.

Personally I made the decision to take the ACT over the SAT after a week of examining the 2 sides side by side and recommend everyone around my grade level to consider both tests and to take both.

Where did you get that comparison? Because honestly they are two separate tests. One measures what you've learned, other how you will do. For example, I just received my scores for the ACT, and I got a 32 comp. My SAT is only about 1820. If that comparison were true, I'd probably be at about 2200. Which would be nice but seems far off. :yllol:

By the way I'm not trying to come off as rude. I'm just wondering...

There's a web site where you can "convert" SAT to ACT and vice versa.

Well I googled a conversion and I was about right. It suggested a 2160 SAT which as I said would be nice, however not close.

    various websites.............just google around

act website has its own and so does the college board.

some ppl are significantly better suited for one test over the other. with ur 32 composite, i think u should stick with act.

versus my 165 psat score last semester and a 28 comp on act, im stickign with act

After going through this with my two son's, take both. You'll likely be better at one than the other, and my experience is that the "conversion" chart's are not that accurate.

Ex: one son: SAT 2040 which would imply a 31 ACT per the conversion. Yet scored 28 when he took it. Most of the schools in our area are SAT centric, so it's not the end of the world.

What's crazy is his science score was 24, yet he's taken (and excelled at) AP and post-AP science classes his entire HS career.

Who knows, he may have blown the test.

In any case, its to your advantage to take both!

Take both. I actually got a perfect math score on my school's practice ACT exam (they seat you like a regular test, but they keep the results and questions so you may go over them with guidance). Than I took the actual test, and only got a 28, and I got a 690 on the SAT. Changed around. This may have confused you, but take both tests many times. it's worth it. They are on different weekends so you can manage it.

Yea I got my scores this morning. I did worse than I expected on English and science.
    27 science
27 english but this is without the writing (I havnt gotten the score yet but expect to do very well)
    33 math
    34 reading

On the SAT I got 690 math and 730 reading but expect to raise my math next month

Would you recommend taking the ACT again?

Just in case you didn't know, they can mix and match your highest scores if applicable. So they can take your ACT math and SAT reading for example...

Yah, they equate ACT scores to SAT scores in the end anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your 33 on ACT math is equal to a 740 on the SAT, so essentially you already have higher than a 690 in math now.

They mix and match scores from different dates of the same test. So your highest score in each section of the SAT/ACT.

I took both SAT and ACT, multiple times. I like taking the ACT better, but I seem to get higher scores on the SAT. One thing I will tell you is that, while I understand the need for the tests and the results, I don't feel they are all that accurate as far as suggesting "how prepared you are for college". At least that has been my experience as illustrated in this comparison.

I have been taking college classes since my sophomore year in high school. (I'm a home-schooler, so that's where I take my advanced classes such as Chem, Phys, Calc.) When we moved to a new state in the second half of my junior year, I met another high school student who also takes college maths and sciences. We compared SAT scores and his were significantly higher than mine (2130 compared to 1880); however, I got better grades than he did in all four of the college classes we took.

My best advice is to practice, practice, practice specifically for the tests and to take challenging classes in the meantime, which will help with your scores and your smarts.

The conversion chart isn't there to tell you how well you'll do on the ACT if you took the SAT and vice versa. It's supposed to be used to compare SAT and ACT scores so that the student knows which one is better and should be sent to colleges. Because the tests are very different, I'd actually be pretty surprised if someone got "equivalent" scores on the SAT and ACT. Like your son, my ACT (35) and SAT (2220) scores did not match up.
