Govt shutdown Round 2

You know that it's already too far down the "spend, spend, spend" road, right cga82? We lost the intestinal fortitude to spend wisely long ago. China has $4 trillion in foreign treasuries, including probably 70% in U.S. treasuries. They own our debt. An $18 trillion hole? Who's going to dig out of that? No one. So each year the debt limit has to be increased, and each year we make ourselves more vulnerable to other world powers.

We so use to dialing 9-1-1 whenever we have an issue, we can't even imagine a day when no one is around to save the U.S. from its own poor choices.

Out of the current Presidential candidates, Trump is the only one who qualified to get this Country out of debt. America is a business and needs one of the best CEOs to run the show.

Pray also that Vice President enters into the race for the Democrats. Because Hilary will not get the nomination, she is a criminal with this e-mail fiasco. The DNC would be a laughing stock if they nominate the Socialist in Bernie Sanders. I don't see how people can support that guy either, Socialism DOES NOT WORK on a country of our size. Maybe it works on smaller scale countries like the Netherlands, where they have a 70% income tax, but it will never work on our country. America was founded on capitalism where people have the EQUAL CHANCE TO BECOME UNEQUAL. It is up the person themselves to work and put in effort if he or she wants to succeed. No one is going to provide you with anything nor should they. What you get out is what you put into it. To quote John F. Kennedy "Ask not what your Country can do for you, ask what you can do for your Country".

CERTAINLY NOT THE WAY IT'S BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE 60'S.

So each year the debt limit has to be increased, and each year we make ourselves more vulnerable to other world powers.
Well then, Don't you think it's high Time to reverse this. It didn't happen over night and the direction hasn't changed but only under Reagan-there is the MODEL....

I don't agree that Trump is 1. qualified to get the country out of debt, 2. qualified to be president or 3. a real conservative.

Unfortunately for Trump, he can't just declare this "company" bankrupt. In fact, I don't think he has a single clue how to lead a country. Trump is in it for himself. He says things we want to hear. He says things that grab headlines. He says things you respond with "Boom, that Trump, sticking it to the man."

He has no conservative track record. He has no indication he'll spend wisely. And frankly, Trump has NO plan…. none. Any question he gets is "I'll get it done, I wrote 'The Art of the Deal'…. they like me…. trust me…. I'll get it done."

And while Trump is well known…. and certainly very recognizable, he's no where near "one of the best CEOs."

Do I hope there's a change? Absolutely! But, the realist in me says no.

I read "Why Nations Fail" a while ago… which held up the U.S. as the success story…. a 200 year old U.S. as the success while the 3,000 year old Roman empire was a failure.

I sure hope we can get through the next 2,800 years as a success…. but I fear we've already sold the future, because we, the Americans of today because that we are special because God made this nation special, and that nothing we do will ever mess that up. Our grandparents and great grandparents didn't have that rosy picture…. but we do…. because prosperity is what we were born into….

Frankly, our level of debt worries me, a lot. It more dangerous than anything immediately threatening us that the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard trains to tackle today. I see it as a silent killer….. our own carbon monoxide…. creeping up and doing its worst… and the moment we realize it…. too late to save ourselves (and no one can save us).

Amassing over $10 Billion using the capitalist system is a great qualifier for the Presidency. You don't have to be politician to become President; in fact, having someone who is not a politician run the Country is for the best! Most politicians are corrupt and vote along party lines without a care for what their constituents think. All these politicians want is the power that comes with their position. What they should do is pass an amendment to the Constitution regarding term limits. There is no reason where Congressmen and Senators should serve for a defacto indefinite time.

Oh and for track record. Senators Paul and Cruz are the only contenders in these Presidential cycle who are put forth legislation for term limits.

I would be just as pleased if Senator Cruz gets the nod from the RNC to be our nominee as well

No one needs to save us. We can save ourselves. Write to your Congressmen and tell them to stop the government handouts. People cheat the system and take advantage of benefits that were set aside for the most needed. Defund that trainwreck in Obamacare. Limit unemployment checks to a one month period. You can find a job in one month. Deport all the illegals in the Country. Force the unemployed in America to work the jobs the illegals are working. If a person thinks he or she is above picking up fruit in California then frankly, let that person fall into poverty. Jobs are available for people to take, good paying jobs. Picking up fruit in California will net you $17 an hour with full-time benefits! Sounds good to me IF I was unemployed.

Oh and another thing, eliminate government agencies. The government has gotten way too big and some Congressional committees don't even know how many "3-letter agencies" they have funded.

I like Rubio. And if you think Trump amassed $10 billion (I'd love to see what the underlying assets are for that number, by the way), out of a pure capitalist system, you'll be disappointed. There are plenty of other billionaires out there (with many more billions) that don't make good leaders either.

My problem with Trump is, as a conservative voter (and thinker), I don't believe he's conservative. A simpler LITS would believe Trump when he says the Bible is his favorite book. A simpler LITS would believe Trump regarding his thoughts on abortion or that he would "military good." A simpler LITS would believe Trump when he says he has a clue about immigration because of the CBP folks he talked to on the border.

Sadly for Trump, LITS isn't a simpleton.

I think real conservatives will come to realize Trump is a sham…. I think that's already starting…. and his numbers are slowly starting to slide.

An honestly, maybe this is my BS in government talking here, or my proximity to Washington, D.C., but Trump's approach to politics doesn't work…. and if he's president, he can no longer "pay" to play.

Not to mention this new generation, millennials, are a bunch of whimps who cry everytime someone hurts their feelings. Also I remember when I was playing baseball in the YMCA in the early 90s, the only teams who EARNED trophies were the winners. Not this BS "Let's give everyone a participating trophy" for their efforts.

Looking forward to :popcorn1:

Me too, given that there has already several flights of fantasy!

Before this goes any further, they should fact check a few things:
  • How much US debt is actually owned by foreigners, specifically the Chinese. I'm guessing much less than 70% of $4 T without looking it up.
  • Did anyone even ask the American people if they were willing to pay for even a portion of the $ spent in Afghanistan and Iraq. No, they got tax cuts and the prescription drug benefit, the biggest new entitlement since Medicare.
  • Actual income taxes paid by foreigners. Euros tax consumption. Hence 20% sales tax (VAT) and $7/gal gasoline
  • What specifically has Trump or any of the others actually proposed to cut
  • What % of GDP
  • do those cuts actual represent
  • How much of Fed Spending can actually be touched, which is not mandated
  • Have any of the candidates other than Christie and Kasich even come close to suggesting that we touch middle class entitlements
  • How much of our GDP do we spend on health care vs. socialist Europe and Canada. Last time I was in Germany and France, they looked a lot healthier than the folks I just saw at the shopping mall.

Where is Scoutpilot when we need him most?

1. According to John Plender's new book "Capitalism" it's $4 trillion, with an estimated 70% being U.S. treasuries. Plender is a lead writer at Financial Times.

We're not talking Helos, so short of asking Scout for his socialist views…. I'm not sure how much he can help. HA!

I' think your approach is simple. I agree that illegal immigration is a problem. I was on the enforcement side of immigration laws for a few years, and no doubt, while there are some very innocent people trying to come to the U.S., there are also some pretty bad people too…. what we'd never want here.

Simply kicking 12 million people out won't happen. Why? Well, first, man power… DHS doesn't have the folks to do it, whether you're talking ICE or CBP or USCG. I was a contractor for an agency within ICE, and even they had trouble tracking legal visitors to this country. How do you pay for finding 12 million people? Where do you find them? Of course, I'm not advocating for allowing them to stay. This would case the same problem Bill Clinton's "Wet Foot Dry Foot" policy caused with Cuba. Overnight we would incentivize illegal immigrants to make a mad dash to get in and stay.

The immigration system is broken. My aunt is a legal immigrant from the Pacific. My girlfriend is a legal immigrant from South America. Both had to wait YEARS to become legalized citizens. It's not fair to them to allow others to cut in front of them just because it's a political football. What Trump probably still doesn't know, but other candidates seems to be talking about more and more, is while securing the border should be an important focus, so should tracking down VISA overstays.

Cutting agencies? Good luck with that. First, in my opinion, some agencies are important. Second, part of my reason for being so concerned about the direction we're headed, is in government its MUCH easier to create than to cut…. and once something is created, it's extremely hard to ditch it. I agree we have to many, and I agree we don't need all of them...

I'd be interested in knowing this though…. what are the TOP 10 agencies you'd cut? If you want to say why, that's cool too, but which agencies need to go away, and which agencies need to be downsized.

First off, I would identify who "They" are @cb7893 Refer to people by names, that is basic etiquette.

Second off, whose folks in Germany and France are not tied to the fast-food industry which so many Americans love. If your problem is with the obesity with America, you should talk to the parents in this country who feed their children that garbage in fast food instead of a good home-cooked meal, allow their children to play video games or watch TV instead of telling them to go play outside, giving their children smart phones with texting capability instead of telling their children to go and ACTUALLY TALK TO A PERSON FACE TO FACE, and lastly being poor role models for their children. Children will mimic their parents. So if their parents are lazy, sloths who eat fast food and slave on the TV and video games all day, don't expect the child to do different!

Unless the child has a better role model outside of the family.

If we want to talk socialist healthcare systems…. ask anyone in the military….

I spent three years having my solder looked at my military docs until I finally had a friend at Vanderbilt check it out… who immediately said what I needed to have done (which eventually lead to surgery at Vanderbilt after I requested to have it done by referral).

Well I can tell you that Trump has stated accuracy when it comes to the border issue. Criminals are entering into this country, shown with the Kate's murder, as just one example. I used to live on the border and I can even attest to the
You know that it's already too far down the "spend, spend, spend" road, right cga82?

I DON'T ACCEPT THOSE TERMS.

We lost the intestinal fortitude to spend wisely long ago.
THAT'S WHY I SAID SHOW THE BUMS WHERE THE ROAD IS LOCATED WITH A DO NOT RETURN.

China has $4 trillion in foreign treasuries, including probably 70% in U.S. treasuries. They own our debt. An $18 trillion hole? Who's going to dig out of that? No one. B.S.

We so use to dialing 9-1-1 whenever we have an issue, we can't even imagine a day when no one is around to save the U.S. from its own poor choices.
I DON'T GIVE UP AND I'M SURE MANY OTHERS WON'T ACCEPT THESE POOR CHOICES -DO YOU?

You're in high school right? I don't mean that as an insult, I'm just trying to figure out if you're 10, 15, 30 or 60.

If your referring to @dasani, I am 28 years old; I already have my master's degree for that matter. I'm glad I am not still in school because the amount of Freedom's being limited in today's school is atrocious.

Yes, kicking out 12 million people is ludicrous; but, kicking them out has to be done. If the government would have fixed the immigration problem when the issue was not at the status that it is at now, we wouldn't be talking about it! However, because now the issue has come to light, we have 12 million illegal immigrants in this Country and they have to go. We are a Country of laws and if we do not enforce certain laws here and there, whats to stop us from enforcing other laws. The line has to be drawn.

Thank you for service also in the Criminal Justice field, many people give their thanks to our military members but forget our police officers and firefighters who fight the War here in this Country.

As per your request on which agencies I would cut, I would love to provide you the complete list if a. I had the complete list, like I said, some congressional committees do not even know how many agencies are there. b. If I had time to go through the list and evaluate each one on their effectiveness and importance. c. I would rather make a list on the agencies that we absolutely need for the protection of the United States and for the prosperity of our Capitalist economy

OK, a list of agencies we need is good…. How about "What are the Top 25 Agencies you'd keep." To make it easier, if you want to leave of Cabinet level agencies (departments of…), feel free to leave them out.

If you read my last comment, I will not waste my time researching the full list of agencies I would cut. What I will tell you is that I am a Anti-Federalist and decreasing the size of the federal government to the absolute minimum is what I support. The federal government should only be responsible for regulating interstate commerce, international affairs, and the department of defense. Everything else should belong to the power of the State.

Does that response satisfy your incessant want to know which agencies I would cut?
