What sort of opportunities are there for graduate studies at a civilian university immediately after commissioning? I asked my Detachment advisor about this, and he only knew of AFIT. From doing some research online it seems USAFA cadets have a scholar's program or can be sponsored by their department at the academy. Is there any way for a ROTC cadet to pursue a master's degree at a civilian university? Thanks!

JMO...no expert here. When you find out your career field and get a report date then you can make a plan. And of course a lot depends on what field you want to get a masters in.

My DS, AFROTC class of 2014, got a pilot slot. We are expecting a delay in the training pipeline and his hope is to start grad school right away. Even if he gets 50% done in the summer and fall term before his report date...that will help down the road. Assuming he will be in training for 3-4 years and not able to take classes, he would still have 3-4 years to complete a masters to finish in the 7 year completion window that is common for many programs. I've suggested he only consider programs that can be completed with distance learning. This also assumes the $ is available to pay for grad school straight out of undergrad.

Well I'd like get my Master's in Electrical Engineering from a decent graduate program (Stanford, Caltech, Berkely, Georgia Tech, MIT). I'd like to know if the Air Force will pay for me to get my degree in 2 years immediately after finishing my bachelors (sort of how AFIT works). If not, would I be allowed to use a fellowship acquired through another source to attend a non-military university?

Any idea who I should contact about this?

Speak with the PAS at your local University with AFROTC...he/she will either know or will have easy contact with the people that can answer that question.
