Graduation 2009!

Hello all Parents, Midshipmen and people in the loop. in an attempt to spread the word effectively and efficiently I registered to CC to post this thread. if you have any questions for me about graduation weekend please email me because I will not have time to check this web site daily, but live and die by email. the letter below is being sent to all First Class midshipmen's parents on Tuesday the 19th of May. usually this letter is in the mail on May 1st but we were working hard to provide complete information. i'm sorry if this leaves you pressed for time but as you can see we are working hard to get you the best information possible. please forward this to everyone who needs and wants to know.

As graduation quickly approaches your soon-to-be Alums are studying hard and preparing for the final hurdle to graduation, Coast Guard License Exams. The enclosed pages are the completed schedule of events for June Weekend 2009. Below is a brief description of the events followed by payment method for each. Also, the Superintendent’s formal invitation with the official schedule of events will be arriving in the mail soon.
On Wednesday, June 17th all first class midshipmen must return to the school no later than 1700. This is a safety precaution. Wednesday and Thursday will be spent packing and out-processing.

1. Varsity Athletics Awards Ceremony Thursday, June 18th 2009 Ackerman Auditorium 4:00
This is an event for midshipmen who participate in a varsity sport, their parents, coaches and guests. An invitation to this event will be sent out from the Athletics Department. If your son or daughter is a varsity athlete, please look in the mail for an invitation and details.
No cost to attend, Cash Bar reception in Yocum Sailing Center to follow.

Friday: Dress for Friday is casual with comfortable shoes.

2. Graduation Awards Luncheon Friday, June 19th 2009 Melville Hall 12:00 PM
This is a luncheon for students receiving academic awards, their parents, faculty and staff. If your student is receiving an award, an invitation will be sent to you from the Dean’s Office. Awards are not chosen until right before license; please expect short notice for an invitation to this event.
Cost for non-midshipmen guests: $25 per person. Check dean's invitation for further details.

3. Graduation Cruise Friday, June 19th 2009 New York Harbor 6:30 PM
Tickets must be purchased in advance; if you have not and still wish to attend or have more people attending, please email me! The cruise leaves from Chelsea Pier #60 in New York City. You will be treated to an evening of fine dining, an open bar, a DJ, and unforgettable views, all while comfortably afloat the largest cruise boat in New York Harbor, the Cornucopia Majesty.
Attire is Dress Casual and if you have not booked you must do so immediately.
Expect a late night in the City. The cruise returns to the pier at 11:00 PM. If you have young children there will be a babysitting service offered. Email if interested.

Saturday: Dress is casual during the day and formal for June Ball. 07:20 AM Colors, Superintendent’s Coffee to follow, 10:00 AM Change of Command Ceremony on Powell Oval, 11:30 Barbeque Lunch

4. Superintendent’s Coffee Saturday, June 20th 2009 Mariner’s Museum 8:15 AM
On Saturday morning after Colors all students, parents, and guests are invited to the Merchant Marine Museum located on McNulty Campus (North Side of School Grounds) to meet our new Superintendent and his wife. There is no charge to attend this event.

5. Change of Command Ceremony Saturday, June 20th 2009 Powell Oval 10:00 AM
Dressed in our Summer Whites, the Regiment of Midshipmen muster around the Oval on the east side of Wiley Hall. When the First Class Midshipmen Officers turn over their duties to the class of 2010, a long standing tradition takes place. The Class of 2009 breaks ranks and dashes to Eldridge Pool for the ceremonial swim. This is a great event to watch; be sure to have your camera ready!

6. Barbeque Lunch Saturday, June 20th 2009 Waterfront, Pool Side 11:30 AM
All Midshipmen, parents, and guests are invited to attend the Barbeque Lunch at the waterfront.
Cost for NON-MIDSHIPMEN: $12.00 per person Checks Payable To: “Nana Services”
Mail Check To: Your son or daughter and they will hand deliver it to Nana Services in Delano.

7. Pre Ball Dinner Saturday, June 20th 2009 Melville Hall 6:30 PM
Reservations are now being taken for the Formal Dinner in Melville Hall. Cocktail Hour, followed by a 4 course dinner, and music by the Art Lillard Orchestra.
Cost for EVERYONE: $70 Per Person( Dinner) $75 Per Person (Dinner and Dance)
Checks Payable to: Melville Hall

8. June Ball Saturday, June 20th 2009 Waterfront, Pool Side 9:00 PM
Everyone is invited to attend the June Ball beginning at 9:00 PM and ending at 1:00 AM.
Live Band, great views, and a wonderful evening to spend with family and friends.
Cost for non-midshipmen guests: $10.00 Per Person, Checks Payable to: Melville Hall
Mail Check To: Graduation Committee, Land Hall, 300 Steamboat Road, Kings Point, NY 11024
Attire: Formal i.e. black tie, tuxedoes, dinner jackets, or dark suits for men; cocktail dresses or gowns for women

Sunday: Attire is Sunday Casual. 9:00 AM Catholic Mass held in Main Chapel and Protestant Service in Lower Chapel.
11:00 AM Baccalaureate Service held in Main Chapel.

9. Hospitality Headquarters Sunday, June 21st 2009 Land Hall 8:00 AM
Coffee and Donuts provided for midshipmen, parents and guests by Parent’s Association.
No charge.
10. Baccalaureate Service Sunday, June 21st 2009 Mariner’s Chapel 11:00 AM
Rear Admiral Joseph Stinson, USNR will speak at the Baccalaureate Service honoring the class of 2009. Everyone is invited to attend this lovely service in Mariner’s Chapel.

11. Brunch Sunday, June 21st 2009 Land Hall 12:00 AM
A large spread to suit anyone’s wishes, Delano provides a scrumptious brunch for midshipmen, parents and guests.
Cost for EVERYONE: $14 Per Person Payable to “Nana Services”, through your Midshipman
Mail Check To: Your son or daughter because all checks or cash have to be hand delivered.
(One check can be written for attending the BBQ Lunch on Saturday and the Brunch on Sunday)

Monday: Attire is Casual. Information on parking will be announced on Friday. All 2009 Graduates must have their room clean and empty by 2:00 PM.

12. Hospitality Headquarters June 22nd 2009 Land Hall 8:00 AM
Coffee and Donuts provided for midshipmen, parents and guests by Parent’s Association.
No charge.

13. Graduation Day Photo: June 22nd 2009 Tomb Field 8:00 AM
Professional panoramic photo taken of the class in choker whites. Order forms available on Monday and on line.

14. Graduation June 22nd 2009 Tomb Field 10:00 AM
In inclement weather, commencement ceremonies will be held in O’Hara Hall. Limited seating available indoors, 7 guests per graduate. Unlimited Seating on Tomb Field. Commencement Speaker, Secretary of Transportation, the Honorable Ray LaHood.

The last order of business: Please use the attached order form when writing checks to the school. I know it is a hassle for you to write multiple checks but I ask your kind consideration because it will ease the book keeping burden and make your weekend more enjoyable overall.

The deadline for all money to be in is June 5th 2009.
