Although a bit far off, exactly what type of interesting activities are available to partake in that revolve around the graduation ceremonies, specifically for parents? I need to know how many days to be in town, other than just for the graduation ceremony at the stadium.

I too am interested in any graduation week insight.

I can tell you this - larger rental homes such as those on VRBO near the academy are already booked for graduation weeks 2014, 15 and 16.

Good, convenient places to eat for larger groups?

Does it take as long to get out of the stadium parking lots as it does during Parent's Weekend football games?

And a question I've always had on my mind....Are the A-10/T-38 displays actually open to the public? Since the public is not supposed to enter through the South Gate, and there is often a security checkpoint (I forget if it's on Stadium or Southgate Blvd) for outbound traffic, I'm hesitant to advise family/friends to visit one of the nicest attractions at USAFA.

Will someone at some point advise when and where the children should congregate for the hat toss retrieval?

Not the most pressing issues/questions, but interested nonetheless.

Thanks!

Hey, no responses? Must be too cold or not the right season for graduation questions.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I have been meaning to but it's just been hectic here. I found many threads about USAFA graduations that may give you a lot of information.

Graduation Expectations, parties, etc.

As for the other questions:

The T-38 and A-10 will be accessible. Once you are on the base you will be able to go just about anywhere.

We waited for 2 1/2 hours to get out of the stadium parking lot after the graduation ceremony. Pack drinks and snacks beforehand. Have your graduate arrange an alternate way out so that he or she can get back to check out of the dorms while you are waiting. Our son parked his truck up the hill a bit and he walked up to it with several friends to get back out.

They will announce instructions for the kids to assemble at one end of the stadium before the hat toss.

Large group dining - our two favorites that could accommodate big groups were Elephant Bar on Academy Blvd, and Texas Roadhouse in Monument.

Let me know any specific questions. I'll try to answer. Hopefully some more recently experienced parents can add.

My DD daughter graduated in May. Getting into the stadium in the morning was not too bad (even with major thunderstorm in south Denver area that delayed many folks). Getting out, as noted above, can be slow going. Cadets will be required to return to the Hill to check out of their room/dorm, turn in sabers (if appicable), etc. The cadets who hung around in the stadium -- were very delayed getting back off campus. Our DD parked her car up hill from stadium (as mentioned above), went straight to her car, and was at after Graduation lunch/party in good time. Other cadets at the same lunch/party were delayed several hours (arrived at 4 pm or later) because they hung around too long in the stadium. Our family left the stadium immediately after ceremony and made lunch/after party in good time. It's all a matter of timing and traffic.

Thanks to those who've replied so far. My DD is class of 2015, so those parents of class of 2014, please keep us in mind after graduation - tell us which of your plans went well, what you would've done differently, etc. Thanks!
