I must be an OLD WP grad. I was SHOCKED to see that the graduation parade uniform was not Full Dress! In fact the uniform was short sleeve (Navy White) shirts and (Navy White) hats.

I have been one that says that the changes at WP have generally been for the better. However, maybe the "Corps really Has".

Does anyone know when we "went Navy" and why?

It is sometimes Full Dress, sometimes W/G. What you saw was (presumably) White over Gray (W/G). I don't really see what's particularly "Navy" about it...the shirt is the same that is worn with the blues for the regular Army.

I think it has to do with weather concerns (I don't know for sure because I wasn't there), but I know last year we did it in W/G because it was supposed to rain. And in the event that it rains then raincoats can be worn with W/G whereas they can't with Full Dress.

My company was sending out Full Dress as the uniform up until about an hour before the parade.

The uniform change was a last minute change. The standard uniform for Graduation Parade is still Full Dress. The change was possibly due to weather or the fact that we had to turn in our Full Dress tops for striping immediately following formation, or a combination or both.

Yea, we had similar procedures in place in 2001. If it did rain (pour) and we were wearing Full Dress in the parade, then India Whites would have been our Graduation Day uniform. Instead, though, it poured Graduation Day morning. Wool stinks when wet!

It rained on the Class of 1989's graduation ceremonies too. Transparent white pants FTW!

I think I recall hearing that it rained on 1990's grad parade and they graduated in India Whites.

We did it in White-over-gray as well. The reason, at least for my class, was the threat of rain for the parade. You can't graduate in wet full dress.

Field was very wet and muddy...concern about soiling uniform prior to grad was what we were told...it was still a great parade and we all cried.:thumb:
