Hi Everybody ! I have been reading these forums for weeks hoping to see that some people were recieving results from the Jan 2011 boards. We have been waiting for what seems forever:confused: My son has applied for an Army 4 yr. He has applied and been accepted at Hampden-Sydney in VA ,Washington and Jefferson in Washington,PA and Georgetown IN KY.We have heard from one PMS that people should be recieving some news this coming week...crossing my fingers ! But then some one else at another college said that these Jan or as he called them,Feb boards arent going to be released until the March boards have met...I am starting to worry a bit now...Should I send in the deposits? Does that hold his place? To be honest,we couldnt afford these schools without the 4 yr award..he has gotten a lot of scholarship monies, but the tution cost are really high, they wouldnt begin to cover these kinds of cost..would love to hear some other input..have a good one:shake:

Sending in an admissions deposit will hold your son's place in the college.

I would not send in any deposits to any college that you cannot afford without an AROTC scholarship until you are certain you have the scholarship and that it can be used at the college that your son wants to attend. I would also (if you haven't already) apply to colleges that you can afford without an AROTC scholarship just in case he doesn't receive one or can't pass DoDMERB or ends up losing the scholarship for some other reason.

The good news is that most colleges do not require you to make a commitment and send in a deposit until May 1st....so you still have some time.

Good Luck!:thumb:

wvrotcmom,

if your DS doesn't receive one from the January board, watch for a new thread starting soon for the March 2011 AROTC board. There are several of us preparing to hang out for another month or so....waiting and waiting...

And I second the advice about applying to a school you can handle without the AROTC scholarship. It looks like the competition is brutal for this year and even some really great, motivated kids are not going to receive one. Hope it isn't the case for you, but be prepared(yeah, can you tell we're a scout family:biggrin:)

Thanks for the advice and the support from all those waiting....I hope that the guy who told us that we would hear news this week is right...My son has also been accepted at our large state school(WVU)..I have a daughter there already who will graduate this year. She recieved a 4yr AROTC in 2007. WVU has a huge population of around 29,000 and basically not enough professors,as you can imagine, scheduling can be difficult to say the least, but WVU is the" Ace in the hole" so to speak...The other schools have a much better acceptance rate to med school(he wants to be a dr) So,that's why we applied to these really high priced schools. WE are aiming high:shake: again thank you for your advice and I hope our wait is soon over::thumb:
