What is the primary gun that will be used for training at Beast?

You will encounter much grief if you call a rifle a gun during CBT!

I believe the rifles are M-14 and M-16.

Definitely, certainly, positively not the M14. Here at Ft. Gordon, pretty much everyone but SNCOs and officers shoot an M16A2. The aforementioned are privileged enough to fire the M4A1 Carbine, which is virtually the same - minus a collapsable stock and slightly shorter barrel.

Can't tell you what they fire at WP, though, sorry.

We shoot M4s or M16s. The incoming class may shoot either, probably M4s.

Unless things have changed dramatcially, you should spent some time with your M14, mostly carrying it on your right shoulder and cleaning it.

You will have 2 weapons during CBT. You will use the M4 or M16 (depends on what your class gets... 2016 got M16s) for your shooting and walking-around needs. You'll have the M14 for your parade (and some other) needs.

There was an interesting little Poem you would have to repeat over and over as you High Ported your way around the Grinder for 2 hours if you ever called a rifle a gun.

    Wonder if that's still around?

Would this be the same poem that was repeated in "Full Metal Jacket"? Loved that one. If so I wonder what the women recite?

We had a little incident regarding this in Army ROTC. Our range day was canceled. Friend of mine, good guy, but clueless about weaponry (he's the reason that there is a "point this end towards enemy" sticker on the AT-4) asked "If we're not shooting this year, are we going to be able to get our hands on some guns next year?" Unfortunately for him, a sergeant fresh out of drill instructor school was standing only a few yards away. In addition to getting chewed out, he had to recite that poem several times in front of the whole battalion.

It's actually the Claymore that has "Front Towards Enemy."

But do ya'll have 68's or any other type of optics during beast, or do ya'll shoot iron?

    Just wondering what to expect.....

2015 M4's had M68 red dot's, if I recall. DS liked it as he was able to setup his personal M4gery at home with the identical Aimpoint civvy model.

    1. The AT4 also has a sticker pointing in the enemy direction
    2. You will use M68's throughout Beast. You may attempt to zero iron sights, but they have been abused to the point where many simply cannot be zeroed, so you will rely on the M68.

Depends on the rifle in terms of your #2. I was able to zero and fired more comfortably with my iron sights because that's what I grew up with and had experience with.
