Has anyone been offered NAPS yet?

NAPS a year later

I remember being on this forum almost exactly a year ago. My DS was just accepting his appointment to NAPS. Wow , the year has flown by! He graduates in a couple of weeks and they just finished all there classes and grades. The Napsters arrive at Annapolis couple of days before the direct admits. They are excited to get there, but happy for the break. For the Napsters of 2015, good luck! Its hard in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it it is pretty smooth sailing:thumb: Before you know it you will be in Annapolis! Naps will help you tremendously! As a matter of fact, the Napsters are drilling this very day. School over, time to get back to drill.

To answer one of the intervening questions, I have had a candidate who started with a foundation offer which he declined, a few weeks later he got a NAPS offer which he accepted. About mid to late May he got a direct offer to USNA which he accepted. I have seen that only once, so don't get excited about it - it is the exception to the general rule.

On other posts: I would agree that in the case of no nom and small school with limited range of classes, the NAPS offer was to try to bring the candidate up to speed so he/she at least had a chance to survive. Of course it also solves the no nom situation. Lots of good suggestions, most of them on target.
Best wishes folks, just a few more weeks.

It typically first comes as an email from Admissions. If you accept the offer, you will eventually receive a presentation certificate -- generally similar to the BFE.

What happens after NAPS...Do the napsters continue as 3rd class men midshipman when the first year is up or do they start as plebes again? Also are all napsters automatically appointed to the Naval Academy after the year at NAPS?

They start as Plebes. They still apply for nominations and all that....if they don't get one the SecNav can give them one. It's practically guaranteed admission to USNA, unless one of them screws up really badly.

triple Q`d and NAPS?

I read that if you are not a recruited athlete or active duty and are found to be triple qualified, you are not eligible for NAPS. Does anyone know if this is true? Triple qualified means you are not eligible for NAPS?

I don't know the answer to the question for sure but no matter what it is, never think that NAPS is some kind of lifeline for a candidate. You ALWAYS want to be triple qualified---there are more possibilities for a candidate to get an appointment being triple qualified than there are for NAPS. The admissions board offers NAPS/Foundation to candidates that have something very strong going for them BESIDES academics and they are close enough to benefit from a year of prep. To be an average candidate and not be triple Q'ed----forget NAPS. Miracles (post #22) may happen but that is not the way Las Vegas bets. Interestingly enough, if a candidate is average and triple Q'ed, they won't get NAPS either as there is no reason for it.

I don't know if that is your young man or woman's situation but the wording of your question sounds like it. His/her best Plan B is to attend a year of college, knock those grades out of the ball park (becoming above average), and reapply if it is. It is a path that has led to appointments for thousands of candidates. Good luck to him in any case.

My son is a baseball player. I've seen a couple of HS ballplayers put up on Twitter that they're going to NAPS. Anyone else hear anything?
