Hawaii Nominations?

Does anyone know what it means, if anything, when each nomination shows up twice on the portal? DS received one from Hirono, and one from Akaka. The portal shows HI61 listed twice and HI02 twice. Does anyone else's show up that way?

I have HI01 showing up once and HI61 showing up twice. Does this mean I got a nomination from Akaka? Does your chances of an appointment go up with additional nominations?

Chances rise, but it is nothing to bank on.

By having multiple noms, you get to vie for the apptmt on multiple slates. Highest WCS wins the apptmt.

Play this game:

Candidate 1: Only Sen A...wins because they have the highest WCS on that slate

Candidate 2: Sen A and Cong 1... wins on Cong. 1's slate

Follow that through for 3-10.

They all took up every Cong. and the Sen A's apptmt,

You however are on Sen A and B's slate. Since candidates 2-10 on Sen A's list and won their Congressman's apptmt. That leaves you and you alone on Sen B's slate. Thus, you get appointed and charged to Sen B.

In the end of the day by having more noms, you get more chances of winning the apptmt. because they have more ways to charge the apptmt. However, that WCS will be the real deciding factor regardless of how many noms you have.

I wonder if "HI61" was a typo--Hawaii has just two U.S. congressional districts--01 (Charles Djou, now Colleen Hanabusa) and 02 (Mazie Hirono). Try logging in to the portal and go to your Nominations tab. It should list your congressional rep and district number as well as Senators Inouye and Akaka.

Have you guys heard anything back from the academies about your nominations?

A friend of mine received his BFE last week. Nominated by Djou.

Consequently, that means that I'm probably not in, but I'm not sure how many open slots there are for district 1.

^^^

The fact that someone from your district received an appt does not necessarily mean bad news for you. First, the other individual could have multiple noms (e.g., Senator or President) and could be assigned to that source. Second, even if that person is assigned to your MOC, you would still go into the national pool and compete against other candidates with MOC noms from across the country. Many candidates are appointed this way . . . and slotted to SecNav or another source.

So, it could be bad news . . . or not. No way to know until you get your notification.

I've been told the HI reps like to do that, so they can get as many kids from out here as possible. I can do nothing but keep my fingers crossed at this point. I know I have multiple noms (congressional, presidential), so I'm really hoping that the Presidential is my golden ticket in.
