I have been trolling this forum for a little over a year so I decided it is time to formally introduce myself! I've been active duty in the Army for close to 4 1/2 years as a Chaplain Assistant. I am originally from the beautiful shores of western Michigan, but I am currently deployed to Afghanistan.

West Point has been my dream since high school and I have applied for the past three years but haven't been able to get accepted. Ever since I have first felt the calling to West Point I had to face many different obstacles, but each year I push through them and get a little bit closer. Right now my disqualifier is that I am too old for the class of 2015 by 60ish days. I was bummed out about this for a while until a few months ago I read about the new Defense Authorization Act and how it would raise the age limit from 22 to 26 if they can pass it. Right now the bill is in limbo but I take it as one more sign that tells me that there is still hope! For now though I will keep growing and developing myself personally and professionally, so that if the bill does pass I will be in a great position to try again!

Regardless of the outcome, I love the Army and will become a Comissioned Officer one way or the other. My passion is to make a positive impact in the Army, and to lead, mentor, and care for soldiers!

That is just a small snippet of who I am and what I am set out to do! My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who desire to, currently are, or formerly have served our great Nation and to those who support them! Blessings!

Welcome, and thank you. :thumb:

There is a thread here discussing the possible Academy age waiver bill -

I just read through all of that, sounds like it was a pretty heated debate! It will be interesting to see how the next few months pan out politically. With all my researching and trying to figure out what is going on with that bill, I had not come across that article. I definitely feel for the SSG, being off of the age cutoff by a couple months is really frustrating! It is what it is though. As they stated in the post there are more than one ways to become an officer, but my heart is set on West Point. Even with all the implied "cons" that the service member may face, I am still willing to make that sacrifice!

Thanks for everything you do, and welcome to this site. =D

Continue to inspire everybody and good luck in everything you do. Please also update us on anything you do in the Army as well as if you make it in West Point. I'm confident you will

HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving to you too!! It's been quite a journey so far and I eagerly await to see how it all pans out! I am just glad I can serve my God and my Country regardless of enlisted or officer, USMA or ROTC. We are doing great things over here and to be a part of it is an honor and something I will be able to return back to the states and willingly talk to anyone about with pride!

You know I'm with you brother!

Stay safe and have a great Thanksgiving, we're thinking about you (and thankful) back here :thumb:
