My son has a couple issues with application process. One of his ACT scores hasn't arrived at usma apparently because his soc sec # wasn't provided to ACT when registering. It is actually his best composite score and thus important. He has been fighting with ACT for weeks to get fixed, but to no avail. Finally, he emailed his regional who it sounds like will help, but kind of tuned up my son at same time. I understand that and my son accepted it too, but actually soc sec # is not required for the ACT, and I'm the one who told him not to give it out unless absolutely required. I feel like an idiot now, but I digress. Problem is, now my son is a bit gunshy about another request for help.

His candidate statements are all in good order, except that when he submitted them on the portal they lost the spacing for paragraphs. Thus, they all look like a single paragraph, and harder to read, not to mention its poor form and style. He would like to get in and fix but its not possible unless someone unlocked it at usma. I know myself it wasn't like that as he was submitting because my wife and I both proofed the statements before he submitted.

    Any suggestions?

Regional Commanders are professionals, but at the same time they are human beings also. Perhaps, your DS can use the his Field Force Rep to act as an intermedaries. So it will be the FFR asking the Regional Commander to unlock the candidate statement, not your DS. The world of caution is to not to engage everybody. I had a candidate that was contacting two FFRs and the RC for the same issue.

It might very well be the process of uploading it that removes the paragraphs. Don't be surprised if it turns out that way, but it is worth pursuing at least.

He should own the outcome, send another one via the request process rather than wait for ACT to do something. Make sure and put the correct college codes in.

Then he might want to let his RC know he requested a resend, and that it may not have the SS# to automatically connect the dots.

If a tune up occurred it was probably about owning and addressing the issue. IE: don't be a victim

Actually, it turns out that ACT no longer will take soc sec numbers. They apparently sent out a memo to all colleges six months ago advising that scores will be sent using ACT ID numbers instead. West Point is only Academy which requests paper scores to be sent by ACT. All others request scores by CD. ACT gave my son all the information as to when the scores were sent, and what the ID numbers are. He forwarded that info to USMA.

I don't believe my son ever blamed anyone else, and apologized for not providing ss#, but I'm not sure he could have done so at the time if he wanted to. I have told him not to provide ss# unless absolutely required, but here it sounds like it isn't an option. These things can be frustrating.

We have no issue with the RC. In fact my son was impressed as hell that he got a response from him right after he sent his email on a Sunday night. That's pretty great commitment to his job.

Son is still waiting for his scores to appear. Hopefully soon.

May I ask what region you are from?

My comment probably sounded harsher than I intended... Big thing is to not wait, order another report and get it underway if needed.
