My son began his app to USMA in the spring of his Jr year and is now a Sr. He completed the application and applied for his service connected, congressional and jrotc nominations. USMA is the only academy he applied to (as well as other colleges and ROTC scholarships). He received a letter from his congressman that he was nominated to West Point and USAFA (to which he did not apply). Help? Is it too late to apply to USAFA? He has reached out to the contact person via the email that was supplied and is waiting a response.
Anyone know what we should be doing now?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Not at all! But your DS needs to get started as soon as possible. He can head over to academyadmissions.com to get started with his application. The deadline for USAFA applications is January 31st. Congratulations to you and your DS!

Does he want to be in the Air Force?

He has really been doing the application process by himself so this was the first question I asked too. His answer is that he wants to serve and had always considered the army his first choice ( his dad is retired). he is thrilled to be being considered for the air force academy as well. He believed his eyesight would not allow him into the air force but has since discovered this was in error. So. We have come late to the party and his researching to educate himself.

Not to worry! I didn't realize that I wanted to do this until October 26th of this year, which happened to be the deadline for my Congressman's nomination process. My ALO has been so helpful throughout this process, and I was completely caught up in a couple of weeks. If your DS received a nomination, then the MOC saw something in him that made him feel that your DS would thrive at the USAFA.

Also, don't worry too much about the eyesight. It's a fairly common issue among applicants. I am currently waiting on a waiver request to go through for my vision.

Best of luck to you and your DS!
