Help!!! Out of shape, but would still like to apply!

Futureplebe,

If you decide to still apply for an Army ROTC Scholarship Do Not talk to the local recruiters, almost everything you said they told you was wrong. There job is to get you to enlist first and foremost. Call the closest college that has ROTC and schedule a vist with the Recruiting Officer or PMS if you can. They will give you all the information you need and will help you in the process, even they will tell you to stay away from the recruiters.

Just do your best with the Presidential Fitness Test, it shouldn't hurt you that much, you have great academic stats, just make sure you list everything else, don't be shy about it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll cancel my meeting with the Army guy for next week. I'll just call or email the PMS at a school near me.

thanks

Not sure how that could get them in trouble.
They won't get in trouble. I doubt (despite Ms Parker's claim) that the "scheduled" scholarship board dates are actually confidential.
I knew I heard it somewhere before and I thought I pieced it all together at the recruiting office.
The August board never happened. As far as I know you missed a board during the first week of October and possibly (according to a couple of other posters) one during the first week of November.

I will agree with a few other posters; don't let your experience in the Army recruiters office prejudice your opinion of Army ROTC. Once you talk to the correct people I think you'll find them both knowledgeable and helpful.

Good Luck! :thumb:

You are correct, I need to keep this in mind. The Army is a such a huge branch, there are tons of people working for them and I can’t judge it based on one experience. Especially when the people there are used to talking to people looking to enlist and all that.

My friend had a similar experience with the Army guys (I just talked to him about it haha). It doesn’t matter that much for him though, he has a LOA to West Point and stands a pretty good chance of getting into the AFA as well.

thanks everyone.

For AROTC--In your interview, the Interviewer will ask if you have completed a fitness test and Im pretty sure that the results from the fitness test factor into your score that the interviewer gives you. He will probably need the Fitness Test results before he can fully score you.

This wasn't my experience with it. For me, I did the interview BEFORE the PT test. It may win you some points to have it done, but it's certainly not required. I got a great score without the PT test.
