DS is having difficulty understanding these 2 items in the BCT Instructions. It appears there are the CFA items of Pull-Push-Sit Ups, plus Long Jump, but there is also the 600 yard and 1.5 mile run(s). He can't tell which events are with each category: AFT or PFT. More importantly, when they Test do they do all 6 events consecutively or break up the AFT/PFT pieces? Thank you!

The Physical Fitness Test (PFT) consists of five events.

- Pull Ups
- Standing Long Jump
- Sit Ups
- Push Ups
- 600 Yard Sprint

It's a 15 minute test. Two minutes are allocated for each event with a minute rest in between.

The Aerobic Fitness Test (AFT) is only the 1.5 mile run.

The tests are completed separately but usually within a one or two week timeline. You might be doing the PFT on a thursday morning and then the AFT the following tuesday morning. Your performance on the PFT accounts for 50% of your Physical Fitness Average (PEA) which is factored into your Overall Performance Average (OPA) which is how the AFA ranks cadets. The AFT account for 15% of PEA while PE classes account for 35% of the PEA.

Granted PEA only affects OPA by 10-15%.

That makes way more sense than how we read their verbage. Thank you! Continued best of luck to you. DS has a high school friend in the AFA Class of '17 he admires very much, and hopes to catch up with him next Fall.

Thanks! Btw, the PFT and AFT are administered once per semester, but your son should expect to take each test twice during BCT.
