Help!!!!!

I started doing the logistics on this and potentially a parent that accompanies their kid, can potentially go back and forth to West Point a realistic 5 round trips their first year. SLS, Overnight visit, "R" day, "A" day and Parent Plebe Weekend...right?

Yep - I think I've spent more money this year (plane tickets, hotel rooms, etc.) on the one with the "free" college education than the one I'm putting through UGA!

LOL!!!! That's so true 2012 Dad. Adding up the trips, hotels, food, and other expenses just visiting the academy's to decide which one is right for son, and now adding up future trips, hotel, etc to visit son once settled............... REALLY ADDS UP!!!! LOL We been think'n the same thing....it "ain't" free! LOL

It does slow down after plebe year -- the next official "Parent Event" after PPW is graduation, although a large percentage of parents attend Ring Weekend in the fall of Firstie Year. Yearling and Cow Year the offical events are primarily "date" oriented, and the % of parents attending falls off greatly. You can find your own reasons if you want to go (football game, Sandhurst, other sporting event, just because...), but there tend to be fewer visits as a rule.

BTW -- if you count SLS through PPW , that is actually almost two years apart (Summer '09 through March '11 for the class of 2014) at this point, so it's not as bad as it sounds!

Wow - you guys are very supportive parents! I was just reading the thread and thinking back. I went to SLS myself (back when it was called Academic Workshop), and flew out for R day myself. My parents drove out for the weekend we had at the end of Beast (we didn't call it "A Day" back then, but same thing). And the next time they came out was for my graduation and wedding (2 days apart). Now of course they paid for me to come home during breaks and stuff, but they just never came to visit and I don't remember ever expecting it. Seems like the only cadets whose parents did were those from NJ and PA (or nearby). Luckily both of my roommates had families nearby so I just hung with them alot!

If my son wanted different, I'd stay home but he likes when we accompany him, I guess we're a close family.

When I enlisted in the Marines at 18, I just left after saying so long to my folks. No big deal and I didn't see them for quite a while afterward. Times are different I guess.
