I have a high school freshman who is, in our vernacular, chomping at the bit. He has his heart set on military service. He's finishing up his eagle about project and running for senior patrol leader of his scout troop, participating in two individual sports (one he's lettered in) and keeping straight As in a very competitive engineering magnet school. He's not just doing these things in order to plump up his resume, either: he loves every minute of sports and scouts, and genuinely likes his school. He's also having a blast in JROTC on the rifle team and the raider challenge team.

I'm trying to negotiate this whole service academy/ROTC scholarship maze. There seem to be a lot of options to consider, and the process is a bit daunting. I'm hoping to gather some information here that will help me sort it all out.

Welcome to SAF, Roughrider! We were ALL in precisely the same boat as you concerning the "maze" of it all. Good luck. Sounds like you've got an awesome kid!

    Welcome RoughRider,

Like Patentesq said, we have all been in your position. Just read, read, read. Pretty much everything you need to know about SAs is somewhere on this forum. If you still can't find it just ask!
