After having my son ask "Any mail" every day after school for the last month, I was thrilled to come across this forum this morning. It is nice to read the comments fr others - some already excited about apptment to the AFA and others waiting, somewhat patiently, like our family.

My son received a nomination from Sen Max Baucus and is a "candidate" for admission. We were told it may be mid-April before we hear anything. I see fr other posts that most people receive a phone call from the office of the Sen or Rep who gave them a nomination and then a letter (BFE? what does that stand for?) That is good to know. I looked at the list of apptments received and didn't see anyone fr up here yet.

My son has been accepted to Montana State University and is waiting to hear about AF or Army ROTC scholarships as his back-up, but he REALLY wants to go to the AFA! We lived in CO Springs for a few years when he was in middle school, have friends who are instructors there, and he even got to play air soft there with a group of cadets. I log onto his AFA Application every few days to see if his status has been changed - this waiting game is hard!

If he does not receive an apptment, will he receive a letter telling him that? We are feeling pretty clueless at this time.

Congrats to all who have received apptments and good luck to those still waiting to hear!

Welcome and good luck to your son. BFE = big fat envelope, which means an offer of appointment to an academy. Since you are new to the forum this list of acronyms should be a help to you:
The Acronym List

If you don't get a BFE, you will most likely get a TWE, Thin White Envelope. Don't take the online application as final say. I got my early appointment on 13 January. It was dated for 6 January. My online portal didn't update until mid to late February. So, don't fret about not seeing an update on there. =D
